Melbourne Writers' Festival

Last Tuesday, a group of grade 5/6 students got to go into the city to the Melbourne Writers' Festival.

We met 4 different authors, all unique in different ways.

One of our favourites was James Foley, who told us funny jokes (better than Mr Lefebvre's)

First, we met Olivia Muscat, then James Foley, followed by Niraj Lal and finally Penny Tangey.

We learnt how they were inspired to become authors and about their lives at school as kids.

Here is some more information on these amazing authors.

The first author was Olivia Muscat. She was inspirational because she followed her dreams even though she was blind. She didn't let that stop her from doing what she dreamed of doing. She also has a lovely dog named Jemmima.

The second author was James Foley. He had a funny personality and helped us illustrate a drawing using Onamatopoeia.

The third author was DR Niraj Lal, who threw Mentos into the audience to show how brains respond to dopamine, and he also gave one kid a Kit Kat, at the same time teaching us about the internet and how to be safe online.

And finally, the last author was Penny Tangney, who wrote the book Music Camp. She told us a lot about climate change and how she went on a music camp in year five. And also we had a recorder quiz.

Overall, we learned a lot about the different authors and had so much fun listening to their stories and jokes! We got some books for the library, and they are signed by the authors.

We would finally like to say a big thank you to Mr B and Mrs Summers for taking us to the day and buying these amazing books.
