What's Been Happening in Prep
BK’s Gymnastics Excursion
As part of our Inquiry unit on health, the Prep students have been learning about ways that we can keep our body healthy. We have been learning about how our bodies grow and change and the importance of looking after ourselves with healthy eating, sleep and exercise. To promote exercise and physical activity, on Tuesday the 28th of April, we went on an excursion to BK's Gymnastics in Craigieburn. This was a fantastic opportunity for students to experience a wide range of fun gymnastics activities and develop their gross motor skills on a range of equipment and apparatus.
Our excursion was highly enjoyable and an active experience for all students. Throughout the session, students participated in a variety of structured activities using specialised gymnastics equipment, including the balance beam, swings, jumping stations, and introductory flips. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm and participation, with all students embracing new challenges and demonstrating positive teamwork and perseverance.
What's Been Happening in Year 2
Bundoora Park Heritage Farm Excursion
As part of our Inquiry unit on “The Olden Days,” last week our Year 2 students enjoyed an exciting excursion to Bundoora Park Heritage Farm. The day provided a wonderful opportunity for students to step back in time and experience what life was like in the early 20th century.
Throughout the visit, students rotated through four engaging, hands-on activities. They explored an old printing press and discovered how people communicated and shared stories before modern technology. During another session, students observed emus and kangaroos while learning about Indigenous history and the important connection between First Nations peoples and the land.
One activity was exploring a heritage house built in 1900. Here, students experienced daily chores from the past, including churning butter, washing clothes using a washboard, and carpet sweeping. Many were surprised by how much time and effort these tasks required!
The highlight of the day was visiting a historic heritage school where the Year 2’s learnt about the rules students would’ve had to follow back then and practised writing with quill and ink. This activity gave them a deeper appreciation for how different school life was compared to today.
The excursion was a fantastic way to bring our learning to life, and students thoroughly enjoyed immersing themselves in history. We are very proud of how respectfully and enthusiastically they participated throughout the day.
