Friday 12th June

I hope all of our families enjoyed the extended King's Birthday long weekend and were able to spend some quality time together.

On Tuesday, our staff participated in a valuable day of professional learning. The morning was facilitated by the Department's Koorie Education Support Team, who worked with us to deepen our understanding of the importance of embedding Indigenous Perspectives within the Victorian Curriculum. Staff explored ways to authentically incorporate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and perspectives into everyday teaching and learning, helping to ensure our students develop a greater understanding of Australia's rich First Nations heritage. The afternoon focused on report writing and moderation, with teachers working collaboratively to ensure consistency and accuracy in student assessment and reporting.

A highlight of the fortnight was undoubtedly the success of our Grade 3/4 Camp. Despite experiencing some very wet weather, our students demonstrated incredible resilience, positivity and enthusiasm throughout their time away. Rain certainly did not dampen spirits, with students embracing every activity with a sense of adventure and excitement. We are extremely proud of the way they challenged themselves, supported one another and made the most of every opportunity.

Thank you to all families for the way you prepared your children for camp and, no doubt, for the considerable amount of washing that followed their return home! For many students, camp is their first experience spending time away from home, and we were incredibly proud of the independence, responsibility and maturity displayed by all of our campers. They were wonderful ambassadors for Mitcham Primary School.

Congratulations to Oscar in Grade 4 and Evie in Grade 5, who both represented our school at the Regional Cross Country Championships held at Yarra Glen Racecourse on Thursday. Reaching the regional level is a significant achievement and reflects the dedication and effort both students have shown throughout the year. We are especially excited to share that Oscar placed an outstanding 9th overall and has qualified for the State Championships. We wish Oscar all the very best as he continues his cross-country journey and congratulate both students on their remarkable achievements.

Last Friday we ran our first MitchKids Playgroup session, welcoming 30 preschool children and their families to Mitcham Primary School. It was wonderful to see so many future students enjoying their first experience of school life as they explored activities, made connections and became familiar with our learning environment. We look forward to welcoming families back for our next MitchKids session, which will be held on Friday 19 June at 10:00am in the Makerspace/STEM Classroom.

Finally, a reminder to families with children commencing school next year that enrolments for 2027 are now open. If you have a preschool-aged child who will be starting school next year, please ensure you organise their enrolment as soon as possible. Information about our enrolment process can be found on the school website.

Wishing all of our families a wonderful weekend ahead.

Warmly,

Erinl
