This term the Grade 1 and 2 students have been investigating the Art element of ‘Value’. Value is the lightness or darkness in a colour. When you add white to a colour or hue, like red, you'll get a TINT. When you add black to a colour, it is called a SHADE. When you mix both white and black (i.e. grey), you make a TONE.
Using a base colour, each student learned how to mix their own tints and shades by adding white to their paint, or by adding black. The students cut their painted tints and shades into ice cream scoops and made this delicious value ice-cream, including a cherry on top or added a textured wafer.
