Science Week Incursion - Mad About Science Liquid NitrogenShow

Our students had an incredible time at our Mad About Science Liquid Nitrogen incursion. 

Students explored the three states of matter — solids, liquids and gases and even learnt special hand gestures to help them remember each one. They then watched as our presenter, Soss, brought these ideas to life through a series of spectacular experiments using liquid nitrogen.

There were plenty of wow moments. Students watched liquid nitrogen create a smoke-like gas, saw balloons and balloon dogs dramatically shrink, and discovered what happens when extreme cold is applied to solids, including a rubber duck that was frozen and smashed! Adding dishwashing detergent to the liquid nitrogen created amazing frozen bubbles, while a range of chemical reactions involving fire provided even more excitement, including an impressive explosion!

The fun continued with the creation of elephant toothpaste, giving students another spectacular example of a chemical reaction in action.

It was a fantastic hands-on experience that showed students that science can be curious, surprising, messy and lots of fun! A huge thank you to the Mad About Science team for an unforgettable incursion and for inspiring our students to keep asking questions about the world around them.

Bendigo Bank Visit

Last week we had Suzanne and Ashley from Bendigo Bank Seddon visit our Year 5 and 6 Learning Community. We were lucky enough to receive sponsorship for our school to purchase LEGO Education Computer Science and AI kits. The Year 5 and 6 students use these kits in Digital Technology sessions. The program involves students using the LEGO kits to explore science, technology, engineering and AI concepts. Last week, Suzanne and Ashley saw the students completing the Save or Score challenge, where they had to decide which way the goalie should move when defending the goal.  We are extremely grateful for the opportunities the sponsorship grants provide to our students.
