Huge congratulations go to our Senior School Athletics Squad for their performance at Tuesday's ISA Athletics Carnival.  On a bright and breezy day there were some outstanding individual efforts, with records broken by Tadhg Crowley in the Boys 12 years 100m and 200m events, James Mikan in the Boys 15 years long jump and Hunter Austin in the Boys 15 years shot-put.

Our Junior Team took out 1st place in the Junior Shield, with the Intermediate Team finishing 3rd and the Senior Team finishing 4th, giving us an overall 3rd place finish in the carnival.  

It was an outstanding day, and congratulations go to all involved, along with my thanks to Mrs Leanne Lee, Miss Riley Gilbert and Mr Scott Steinman for their work in coaching the team, along with all our external coaches.

Basketball

First V Sydney School Shootout

Our First V Basketball team has been working tirelessly throughout the term in preparation for the upcoming Sydney Schools Shootout, to be held on 8 and 9 October at the Northern Beaches Indoor Sports Centre.

After being unable to participate in the tournament last year, it is exciting to see St Pius X return to this highly regarded preseason event. Under the guidance of Jack and Danny Garrett, the squad has embraced a demanding training schedule, focusing on skill development, team cohesion and game preparation ahead of the challenge.

Competing in the Open Boys Division against quality opposition from across Sydney will provide a valuable opportunity for the team to test themselves and continue their development as they build towards the summer season. We wish the players and coaches all the best and look forward to following their progress at the tournament.

Basketball Holiday Camp - Save the Date

Clipboard registrations will open on Friday afternoon for the upcoming St Pius X Basketball Holiday Camp, led by James Asensi and the AET Basketball coaching team.

Due to the College's major works program, the camp is expected to be held at Oxford Falls, subject to facility availability.

Dear SPX Basketball Parents and Families,

On behalf of the SPX Basketball Committee, I'd like to welcome all new and returning players and families to the 2026 season.

With team trials underway, we're looking forward to another great year of basketball at St Pius X.

Exciting News for 2026

We're excited to announce a new partnership with Asensi Elite Team (AET), who will support player development and coaching across the program. This partnership will bring enhanced training opportunities, specialist coaching, holiday camps and development pathways for our players.

Building Our Basketball Community

We're also exploring a SPX Basketball Season Launch Event, providing an opportunity for players, parents, coaches and supporters to come together, connect and celebrate the season ahead.

As a community-driven program, we welcome parent involvement. Whether you'd like to help on the Basketball Committee, support events, assist with fundraising, sponsorship, communications or game-day activities, we'd love to hear from you.

Basketball Grading Schedule

We have now completed our first round of basketball grading, and it has been fantastic to see the enthusiasm, effort and skill on display from so many students. Teams are beginning to take shape, and we greatly appreciate the positive attitude and commitment shown by all players throughout the process.

Final team selections will be confirmed following the second grading session. Once teams have been finalised, allocations will begin appearing in Clipboard, along with draft fixtures for the upcoming ISA basketball season.

Thank you for your patience and support as we work through the grading process. 

2026 - 2027 ISA BASKETBALL CALENDAR

Basketball Training Shirt

A sincere thank you to the SPX Basketball Supporters Club for their generous sponsorship of the new SPX Basketball Training Shirts. This support has enabled every registered player in the program to receive a training shirt for the upcoming season, helping to strengthen our basketball identity and create a greater sense of unity across all teams.

Distribution of the shirts has now commenced and players will continue to receive their shirts over the coming weeks.

Please note that the training shirts are only permitted to be worn during the following occasions:

• SPX Basketball training sessions

• To and from SPX Basketball games and during warmups

• Approved Basketball program activities, including camps and clinics

The shirts are not permitted to be worn:

• During PE lessons at the Chatswood campus

• To and from school

• As part of the daily school uniform

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Basketball Supporters Club for their ongoing commitment to supporting the growth and development of basketball at St Pius X College. Their generosity continues to make a significant difference to the experience of our students and the strength of our program.

MWJCA CRICKET SKILLS DAY

Cricket Skills Day, run by Cricket Appeal — Friday 2 October, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, Oxford Falls Campus

The College, in conjunction with Cricket Appeal, will host a Cricket Skills Day on Friday 2 October, in the first week of the Term 3 holidays. The day runs from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Oxford Falls Campus.

The program is open to all students in Years 5–10. Selection in an SPX Cricket side is not a prerequisite, nor is prior participation in trials. A BBQ lunch will be provided.

Families are asked to complete the RSVP form below by Friday 18 September. As catering and staffing are arranged on the basis of confirmed numbers, late responses may not be accommodated.

MWJCA Representative Cricket

The MWJCA held their annual ‘capping’ night this week, where all the players selected for the MWJCA representative teams were recognised and officially announced as being members of their teams. The College was well represented with Darcy Horstead (U17), Cooper Gabriel (U15), Felix Keeler (U14), Kent Sobey (U13), Alex Paixao (U13) and Charlie Gabriel (U12) all being capped.

These boys will play for Manly against other junior cricket associations from across Greater Sydney throughout the season. Congratulations to these boys on being selected.

Squash

What an end to the season! All our teams played their hearts out, leaving nothing on the court. With every match played at Thornleigh on Saturday, it was an extravaganza of squash had by all.

Congratulations to our Division winners and to all teams on a fantastic finish to the Winter season.

SPX 1 – Division 2 Champions

The SPX 1 team, led by Cameron Giang, won the Division 2 final against a strong Briars team. Cameron played some amazing shots, showing off his skill and composure throughout the match. He controlled the court, made very few errors and won convincingly in straight sets. Well done to our team captain and the SPX 1 team on a tremendous result.

SPX 2 – Division 4 Champions

SPX 2 had a delayed start, but that certainly didn’t hinder the explosive beginning from our boys. Lucas Tubman dealt with the Barker challenge with confidence, moving his opponent around the court and controlling each point.

Then Liam Spatola stepped onto the court. It was a close contest early, but Liam’s serving was superb and allowed him to take control of the match. In the end, the victory was resounding. Congratulations to our Division 4 Champions!

SPX 3 – Division 5 Runners-Up

Our SPX 3 team went undefeated throughout the regular season. Eric Park and Max Sunjaya were outstanding, rarely dropping points and consistently producing excellent squash.

The final, however, was a very different affair. The Barker team had plenty of bite, and the contest was close from the beginning, with long rallies and tightly fought points. It was a tough loss to a Barker team that produced some very accurate squash, but the never-say-die effort from the Pius boys was fantastic to see. They should be extremely proud of an outstanding season.

SPX 6 – Third Place, Division 6

SPX 6 had an amazing run this season, with Ryan and Nick combining strongly throughout the competition. They faced a Briars team that had got the better of them in their previous encounter.

This time, however, in the playoff for third place in Division 6, both boys produced outstanding performances, dominating the court and turning the previous result around. A fantastic way to finish the season.

SPX 5  – Division 8 Champions

The SPX 5 and SPX 7 teams faced each other in the Division 8 final, producing another classic mate-versus-mate battle on court.

The match was played with tremendous fairness and camaraderie, and the close-knit nature of St Pius X Squash really shone through. SPX 5 eventually came away with the victory, but not without being challenged all the way by SPX 7. There were closely contested sets, long rallies and games that went right down to the wire. It was a wonderful example of competitive squash played in the right spirit.

Finally, thank you to all the parents and players who supported our teams throughout the winter season. Your commitment have helped make this another memorable season for St Pius X Squash.

Congratulations to all our players on their efforts and achievements throughout the competition.

Holiday Squash Camps

Our Senior Professional Squash Coach, Jacob Robinson, will be running a junior holiday camp through East Coast Squash Academy.  Please note that this is a private coaching opportunity and is not a Pius-run activity.  No Pius staff will be in attendance.

Tennis

Thanks to all the players who turned up for the first week of the NSTA tennis trials at Oxford Falls Racquet Club on Saturday. We had a great morning of tennis at our new home court venue. 

This Saturday is the final week of tennis trials for the NSTA season. Anyone who has registered on Clipboard for NSTA Tennis and did not attend the first grading session, must attend this Saturday.

Touch Football

Training commenced this week as we prepare for our trial fixtures this Saturday at the Macquarie University Sports Fields. Clipboard has been updated with all relevant details, including kick-off times and the required playing attire for each team.

As a reminder, Clipboard is the primary platform for all Touch Football communications. Team announcements, training updates, fixture information, venue details, and any schedule changes will be communicated through Clipboard. Students and parents are encouraged to check the platform regularly to ensure they remain informed and up to date throughout the season.

Touch Football Dates for the Diary:

• 19 September - Trials at Macquarie University sports fields
• 23 September – Last training session for the term 
• 14 October – Training resumes at Oxford Falls
