Battle of the Bands

Donald High’s Annual Battle of the Bands took place on the last day of Term 3. Forty-one students from years 7-12, along with several of their teachers, presented a music extravaganza in which 19 songs were performed to an enthusiastic audience.

School Captains Nicki Sak and Chase Campbell acted as MC’s and introduced the various acts.  A very wide range of songs were played including country, pop, rap and heavy rock.

Stuart Potter opened proceedings with a lively performance of “Mustang Sally”, backed up by the Ellie and Charlee and the entire audience, followed by Madeline singing “Bad Habits”. Sixteen members of the School Choir then performed “Choosin’ Texas”, “Austin” and “She’s All I Wanna Be.” Sophie then performed “Carry Me” with Nevaeh and “Narcissist” and “Mr Predictable.” Two lively songs followed – “Filthy Rich” sung by Mackenzie, Indi, River and Charlee then "Eastern Rosellas" sung by Halle and Victory. River, Ellie and Erin harmonised very well to perform “Stay”, followed by Jaz singing “Tennessee Orange” and Ellie singing “Hell at Hight.” Zack Bryan songs have been very popular with our male performers recently and Luca, Oakley and Dan sang two of his songs - “Plastic Cigarettes” and “Say Why.” Ellie then superbly sang Eminem’s famous rap-song “Lose Yourself.” The day finished with three songs from our Year 8 Rock Groups comprising singers River, Ellie, Issy and Marnie, guitarists Harvey, Caleb and Max, with Victor on drums, who performed Black Sabath’s “Paranoid”, Green Days “Basket Case” and Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”.

All songs were performed to a high standard which showed off the wealth of musical talent in the student and staff ranks. I would like to thank all the performers who played instruments and sang on the day, and it was a fun way to finish the term for most of the school’s music students. I was very proud of all my music students.
