PREMIERS READING CHALLENGE   - CELEBRATING OUR READERS

Gallery Image

A huge congratulations to all our Greenhills students who successfully completed the Victorian Premier's Reading Challenge this year! We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, commitment and love of reading demonstrated by so many of our students.

At Greenhills, we are fortunate to be a really strong reading school, and while our reading data and NAPLAN results certainly reflect this, we believe that being a great reading school goes much deeper than test scores. It is about developing a genuine love of reading, sparking curiosity, opening up new worlds and helping our students discover the lifelong joy that comes from getting lost in a great book.

A big shout out goes to 2MH, where every single student completed the Premier's Reading Challenge this year! What a fantastic achievement and a wonderful example of a classroom culture that celebrates reading. Thank you to our teachers and families for continuing to encourage and nurture our young readers. After all, our ultimate goal isn't simply to develop students who can read well, but students who choose to read because they love it!

SPOTLIGHT ON STEAM – CREATIVITY, CURIOSITY AND INNOVATION

There is always something exciting, interesting and engaging happening in our STEAM specialist program at Greenhills! It is wonderful to see our students exploring new ideas, thinking creatively, solving problems and bringing their learning to life through such a fantastic range of hands-on experiences. STEAM provides so many opportunities for our students to be curious, take risks, experiment and develop important skills through our HILAT’s that extend well beyond the classroom.

A great example of this has been the fantastic short animations created by our Year 5 and 6 students, which are currently being showcased on our official school Facebook page. Make sure you jump on and check them out. There is some seriously impressive creativity and talent on display! A huge thank you to Lauren Richardson, our wonderful STEAM teacher, for continuing to deliver such an engaging, innovative and inspiring program for our students. We are very lucky to have such a fantastic learning opportunity at Greenhills!

Across all areas of the survey, we have had significant percentages of positive responses (I agree or I strongly agree). Thank you for this feedback and know that we will continue to work hard to improve what we do for our students and involve you in that process. Here is brief summary of some of the areas and associated questions:

TERM 4 - MEET WITH THE PRINCIPAL TEAM

Don’t forget that on Wednesday 18th November at 7.30pm we will host our Term 4 Mid-Term Meet with the Principal Team. The session will be held via Webex with the link sent out shortly. This session is usually very well attended as we share information about the structure of our school for 2027 including the number of classes, number of students in each class and a range of other information about next year.

WE WANT OUR SCHOOL TO BE A BRAVE SPACE

The question for this week is about Learning from mistakes: What mistake helped you learn something this week?

Sticking with it:  When did you feel like giving up this week, and what helped you keep going?
