House Singing
This week, our Houses used their regular assembly period to come together, from Pre-Primary to Year Twelve, and practise for the upcoming House Singing Competition. It was wonderful to see students from all year groups working collaboratively and demonstrating strong House spirit.
The House Singing Competition will culminate in performances during VACS on Wednesday of Week Nine, alongside the House Debating and Battle of the Bands competitions. These events all contribute points towards the Malacari Shield and the Arts Shield.

Year Seven and Year Eight Elective Selection 2027
This week, our Year Seven and Year Eight students are being presented with their elective options for next year. Information will be sent home, and we encourage parents to have conversations with their children about their subject choices for 2027.
Choosing electives often involves balancing a range of interests and opportunities. Students should consider the subjects they are passionate about, the value of stepping outside their comfort zone to try something new, and the importance of developing a broad range of skills and interests.
Electives are a wonderful way for students to add balance to their education. They also provide an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of an area they genuinely enjoy. However, deciding which path to take is not always easy. These decisions require thoughtful consideration and meaningful discussion as a family.
Mountain Biking
One of the most popular electives at Great Southern Grammar is Outdoor Education. Students have the opportunity to learn outdoors, develop an appreciation for the natural environment, and build important life skills.
One of the most popular units in Outdoor Education is mountain biking, which is perfectly suited to our local environment. Whether it is exploring the trails around Mt Clarence and Mt Adelaide, honing skills at the local pump track, or riding sections of the Munda Biddi Trail, there are outstanding opportunities right on our doorstep.
This week, our Year Twelve Outdoor Education cohort is undertaking its final camp assessment for the year in Margaret River. The students are embarking on a mountain biking adventure on the region's renowned trails. As part of the experience, they plan their own expedition, including food and camping equipment, and spend two days riding and exploring. We look forward to welcoming them back on Friday, dirty, tired, and full of smiles!
This year, we have also built a pump track on campus in the boarding precinct. This facility will further enhance our Outdoor Education program and provide additional opportunities for skill development. Our boarders have been having a blast getting familiar with the new track, and a huge thank you goes to the P&F for funding the project, as well as to Director of Boarding, Mr Brodie Sarre, for the significant work he has done to bring the project to life.

Proposed Paris Tour 2027
We are delighted to be recommencing planning for the Paris Tour in 2027. We are now planning to offer it during the Term Three holidays in September and October 2027. The tour will run for ten days and is open to students enrolled in Years Ten, Eleven and Twelve in 2027.
Paris is one of Europe's most beautiful cities, offering a rich cultural heritage, world-renowned cuisine and fascinating history. The Eiffel Tower, the Mona Lisa, the Louvre, Notre-Dame, the Palace of Versailles and Monet's Gardens are just some of the highlights of the tour. If you would like to express your interest in this tour, please complete the 2027 Paris Tour Expression of Interest form by Thursday 10 September. There will an information session on Monday 21 September in the school Library at 5.00pm. Please note that priority placement will be given to students who expressed interest in the tour earlier this year.
