Clontarf Academy

Mr David Friebel, Clontarf Academy Director

As we settle into term 3, the Clontarf Academy continues to be a hive of activity. With the cool weather, our boys have been enjoying the shelter of our academy space. Our academy room provides a safe space for our boys and is central to our program.

Local artist Aunty Doreen Abbott came in to visit our boys and share her knowledge on Indigenous symbols used in art. Our boys are currently working on a design for a mural in our project space and the knowledge that Aunty Doreen has passed on to the boys will be a major part of the finished product.

Our boys love it when elders come in and one of our regulars in Uncle Al Harris has continued to support our boys through regular catch ups. Uncle Al and sons Tristan and Azlan have been supports for our boys for over two years and its great they are continuing to support our boys in the Clontarf space. The knowledge they pass on and the connection they have with our boys is vital for our boys to remain linked with culture.

As well as the Mural project the boys have been busy working on their Bundis. There has been a real buzz around this space which we hope to be able to turn into an enterprise for our boys. Watch this space.

Tuesday Soup day has kicked off again for 2024 with our boys serving hot soup to teachers each Tuesday lunchtime. The soup has been kindly supplied through the College Social Club and the gold coin donations go to the Ballarat Soup Bus. It’s also a great opportunity for school staff to get around our boys and build relationships outside of the usual classroom environment.
