BAS Cross Country

Within the BAS, we compete in three events which include the Road Relays, Cross Country and Lap of the Lake. The next event is the BAS Cross Country at Ballarat High School on Wednesday, 7 August at 1.30pm.

We will also compete in the ACC Cross Country event in Week 9. This will be a great challenge for our boys against the might of the Melbourne schools.

The boys need to keep an eye on the Daily Messages for information about upcoming events.

Soccer

BAS Juniors:

SPC White 3 vs 6 SPC Blue

White goals: Ethan Mardling 2, Tobias Powell 1.

Blue goals: Milo Alvarado 3, Kade Howden 2, Will Steenhuis 1.

SPC White started the game well, with Ethan putting one in back of net early and taking the lead. White held onto this lead going 2-1 into the break. Second half of the game, White knew they would have their work cut out going against the wind and defending well for most of the half before letting in a few. Tadgh played well moving to the back left for the second half stopping a barrage being played in, however the boys went down ending the game 3-6 and losing to SPC Blue.

- Liam Davie, SPC White coach

SPC Green 2 def Ballarat Clarendon College Black 1

Goals: Sampson Shonuga, Jake Remington

Our first game resulted in a win over one of the BCC teams. Given that this was the first time that the St Patrick’s boys had played together, they started the game extremely well and were clearly the dominant team. However, against the run of play, Ballarat College was able to score the first and only goal of the first half.

With a head win in the second half the boys were instructed to keep running, to maintain possession and to continue to place pressure on the Ballarat College defence. After several near goal scoring attempts, Sampson Shonuga was able to take the opportunity presented to him and scored our first goal. With about 10 minutes of the game remaining, Jake Remington was able to run into the penalty box and score a nice second goal for the team. The boys were very deserving of their first win and should be looking forward to the rest of the season.

- Barry Schuurs, SPC Green coach

Round 1 match report

The St Pat’s First XI have continued their winning form into the BAS competition, with a decisive 10-0 win against Clarendon’s 2nd team. Hampered by turbulent winds, but bolstered by the opportunity to play on the main oval for the first time this season, the boys put on a clinical performance.

Standouts included Josh Remington who scored five goals, captain Rex Van Berkel who scored 2, as well as two first-timers to the squad: Brendon Hackwill who displayed commendable work-rate, chasing balls for the entirety of the game, and Ollie Behren’s whose shots thundered against the crossbar twice from range.

- Pietro Angeli, Senior coach

Rowing

Rowing has started and the boys involved are training hard. Thanks to SPC Old Boy Mr David O’Doherty and Ms Rebecca Gribble for their tireless work prepping the boys to get out on the water and ready for regattas later on this year.

Fishing

For the first time in the school’s history we have introduced Fishing as a sport for this term. Big thanks to Mr Brendan Dix for his work to get this up and going. Best of luck to the boys that will be fishing on Lake Wendouree. The boys will participate in ‘normal’ fishing off the banks, and they will also participate in some Fly Fishing with the assistance of the Ballarat Fly Fishing Club. What a fantastic initiative that gives our boys an alternative to the other sports on offer this term.

Morning Notices

Student’s need to listen to the morning messages and regularly check Microsoft teams so they get the most up to date information and can communicate with their coach.

Communication

The best form of communication we have with parent/guardians is via the Parent Access Module (PAM). Students require permission to participate in all sport. Parent/guardians will receive the information through a PAM activity permission. Please ensure that you read the information prior to giving permission and that you also talk to students about the information.

The daily messages are one of the best ways we can distribute information to students about sports that are on offer and where sign up meetings will be held. Students should check the daily messages regularly.

Once students have signed up for a sport, we will be adding them into a MS Teams group where they can communicate directly with their coach. Students must communicate with their coach if they are unavailable for a match so we can find a replacement to ensure we have a full team for each match. If students are unsure of how to sign up for a sport or want more information, they should visit sports staff in the gymnasium.

Sports Uniform

Students need to ensure they are in the correct uniform to participate. The general sport uniform is the navy blue polo top, navy shorts and white socks. Certain sports will require very specific clothing e.g. Soccer will need to purchase SPC soccer shorts and socks and Basketball will need to purchase SPC Basketball shorts. Students should check with their coach as to what is required. Uniform can be purchased through Dobsons, online or at the College during shop opening hours.

I wish all students and coaches the best in Term 3. Always play the game in the right spirit, wear the correct uniform and respect the facilities, home and away. St Patrick’s College is steeped in sporting tradition, and you are encouraged to add more chapters to our past endeavours.
