Prep 100 Day Party 

Last week, it was wonderful to see our Prep students celebrate 100 Days of School, marking this important milestone by dressing up as 100-year-olds. The creativity and enthusiasm on display made for a fun and memorable day, with our Prep staff also embracing the occasion by joining in the dress-up. It was a fantastic way to celebrate 100 days of learning, growth and achievement, and we are so proud of all that our Prep students have accomplished during their first 100 days of school.

It's busy time for our Year 1s

Another special highlight last week was our Year 1 Grandparents’ Day. The students were thrilled to welcome their grandparents and special friends to Gardenvale, sharing stories and learning about what school was like in earlier times. The children also gave a wonderful performance of songs taught by Ms Cook and their class teachers. By the response from the audience, our special visitors loved every minute spent at Gardenvale PS. For a few of our grandparents, it was extra special, as they were returning to their own primary school – they were Gardenvale students!

Year 6 Debating Team

Congratulations to our Year 6 Debating Team for representing Gardenvale Primary School so proudly at the Network Debating Competition last Friday. Our students demonstrated confidence, teamwork and respect throughout the competition, and we are incredibly proud of the way they represented our school. Well done to all involved, and a special thank you to Mrs Ife for her organisation and support in making our team's participation possible.

Year 4 – 6 House Athletics Carnival

Kirsten Travis has once again done a brilliant job organising the House Athletics Carnival for Thursday 6th August. The planning and coordination behind this event are a significant undertaking, and we are grateful to all staff and volunteer parents who will be working tirelessly throughout the day - often without a break. We’re all hoping for fine weather and a fantastic day for our students.

I believe on Saturday night, 25th July, a fabulous time was had by many of our parents at the GPS Cowboy and Rodeo Cocktail Party.  It was brilliantly organised by Steph Munro and Mia Roth with the support of many other parents to set and pack up.  It is great for our parent community to have the opportunity to come together in a fun and relaxed environment.

Student Medical Conditions 

To all parents/guardians who have a child with a medical condition (anaphylaxis, asthma or allergies), please ensure you have emailed an updated Action Plan to gardenvale.ps@education.vic.gov.au.  It is recommended these plans are updated every 12-18 months. For students with asthma, a clearly labelled reliever, spacer and copy oftheir Action Plan, must be kept in their school bag. Importantly, this kit must also be taken by students when going off-site, e.g. excursions or sporting events.

Medication required to be dispensed at school – a completed and signed Medication Authority Form (collect from office), must accompany clearly labelled medication, with dosage instructions and handed to the relevant office or teacher. This form should also be completed for short-term medication, e.g. antibiotics. Thank you for your assistance in helping us to ensure the wellbeing of your child. 

Book Week Parade

On Friday 28th August, we will be having our annual Book Week Parade. This will be held at the Senior Campus under the COLA between 9.15am and 10.15am. Parents are welcome to attend and watch the parade. The theme for this year’s Book Week celebration is A Symphony of Stories, however their costume does not need to relate to this theme - they can dress as any character from a book!

We would love it if students could bring a copy of the book that their costume is from and carry it in the parade. Happy reading!

Prep and Year 4 Working Bee

We would absolutely love to see as many Prep and Year 4 families as possible at our Working Bee, on both campuses, at 9.00am this Sunday, 9th August. There is much to be done, with many hands, the long list of jobs can easily be completed.
