From the Head of Sport

The start of Term 3 has been a busy and exciting time for BMGS Sport. With only two rounds remaining before the ISA Winter Sport semi-finals our teams are focused and determined to finish the season strongly. We wish all of our students the very best as they head into the final weeks of competition. 

Round 10 will be a Home Day for winter sport with all but one team playing at home. Please come along and support our teams. The P&F will be running a BBQ on the day and would also love your support. 

Looking ahead, the ISA Athletics Carnival will be held in September. We look forward to seeing all students selected to represent the School embrace this opportunity to compete at the next level and build on their performances at our recent School Athletics Carnival. Attendance is expected for all students who have qualified. 

This term will also see our Winter Sport Presentation Evenings where we will celebrate the achievements of our teams throughout the season. Further details will be shared in upcoming editions of the newsletter. 

Preparations are already underway for the summer sport season, with selections for Basketball and Touch Football commencing in Week 8. The Summer Sport Survey has now been distributed. Please ensure it is completed as soon as possible, as it will only remain open for one week. 

Congratulations

Cross Country 

Congratulations to Orlando Magagna, who represented BMGS and NSWCIS at the NSW All Schools Cross Country Championships last week. Competing in the 12 Years Boys 3km event, Orlando produced an outstanding performance to finish 15th out of a field of 103 runners. This is a great achievement, and we congratulate Orlando on his success. 

Athletics

ISA Athletics Carnival – Term 3 (16th September) Reminder 

The ISA Athletics Carnival is coming up in Term 3. If you have been selected for the BMGS Athletics Team you will receive information over the coming weeks. Make sure you check the list on the sports noticeboard for your events. 

If you need to hire a singlet please do so from the Uniform Shop. If you own a basketball singlet you can wear this on the gold side to compete. 

If you are unavailable for any events please see me in my office ASAP.

Hockey

1st XI Hockey — vs Central Coast Grammar School (Away)

On Saturday 25 July, the BMGS 1st Hockey team travelled to take on Central Coast Grammar School in a hard-fought away fixture, ultimately going down 2-1 in a tightly contested match.

Our goal came from a well-worked passage of play, with Ruby Minter perfectly positioned to convert a beautiful tap-in off a sharp assist from Edie.

Central Coast Grammar defended with strong positional structure, making it difficult for BMGS to break through into attacking areas. Kerry's stick work stood out in this contest, repeatedly helping the team navigate pressure and progress the ball past a well-organised opposition.

In goal, Charlotte stepped up admirably, producing several outstanding saves with quick reflexes to deny the opposition on multiple occasions, particularly under sustained attacking pressure.

While the scoreline ultimately went the way of Central Coast Grammar, it did not reflect the effort, determination, and team spirit on display from BMGS. The girls will carry this momentum into their final game of the season next week, looking to finish strong and showcase their continued improvement.

Junior Hockey — vs SACS

Result: Win, 3–2 Goal Scorers: Harriet, Niamh, Izzy

Saturday's match marked the first game of the season without our centre forward, Nicole — she was sorely missed, but the team dug deep and came away with a well-earned win. With no substitutes on the bench, every player soldiered on for the full game, never backing down from a challenge. A huge congratulations to the girls on a gutsy, determined performance.

SACS played strong offence and defence throughout, though they turned the ball over frequently in the first half. They lifted in the second half, mounting a much stronger challenge — and it was fantastic to see our team adapt and respond in kind. Even as SACS found the back of the net, our girls never lost hope, keeping their spirits high and their foot on the gas.

Midfield & Attack

Harriet and Niamh were outstanding on the wings, playing like two peas in a pod — each scoring a beautiful goal and combining brilliantly with strong communication throughout the game. Maddy pulled out some clever stick work, weaving seamlessly past defenders to feed the ball through to our attacking players. Further back, Molly read the game beautifully on the right side of the field, timing her tackles perfectly to win back possession whenever SACS pushed forward.

Defence

Rosie stepped into goals for the first time since last season — and you wouldn't have known it. She and Isabella communicated superbly, combining to block numerous attempts on our circle, while Lily's strong running in defence kept scoring opportunities against us to a minimum.

A brilliant team effort all round — can't wait for the next game!
