Year 5 Learning Update

Year 5 have really kick-started Term 3 with a bang this week!

We are very proud to say that our Year 5 students have settled back in to the term beautifully, ready and focused for their learning.

From our SES incursion on the very first day back, to our walking excursion to Mordialloc College on Wednesday and then our special full-day Inquiry event on Monday including our Beach Patrol Action, we are in full swing of our Sharing the Planet Unit of Inquiry based around Climate Hazards and Impact and Human Actions and Responses. It has been a wild ride already!

Year 5 SES Incursion

Our Year 5 students enjoyed a fascinating visit from the State Emergency Service (SES), where they learned about the important role SES volunteers play in helping communities during emergencies. Students participated in an engaging presentation about natural disasters, including storms and floods, and discovered how to stay safe and prepared during these events. They also had the exciting opportunity to explore the SES truck and examine the specialised equipment used during emergency responses. It was a valuable and interactive experience that gave students a greater appreciation for the work of the SES and the importance of being prepared.

Mordialloc College Excursion

Then on Wednesday, we were off to Mordialloc College for a taster session in their Performing Arts Centre. Students behaved exceptionally and followed our school PRICE values even earning themselves a bonus 10-minutes of extra lunchtime. We even had some ex-APS students helping at our session where students learned and performed an ABBA song from the college's upcoming 'Mama Mia' production. We certainly have some beautiful voices in Year 5!

Full-day Inquiry Event

This Monday, students will be engaging in our full-day Inquiry event where we will view a screening of 'Ocean with David Attenborough', reflect on this and take action through Beach Patrol at Aspendale Beach. Then we will finish off our day diving into our final Unit of Inquiry project all based around our Sharing the Planet transdisciplinary theme. If you have not seen 'Ocean with David Attenborough', it is well worth the watch and we are sure it will also inspire you to take action (no matter how large or small).
