What we are doing in class

In Inquiry, we are continuing to explore the special features and information about each of Australia’s states and territories.

In Mathematics, our students have worked hard to explore many different strategies to solve Addition and Subtraction problems. Using the vertical algorithm in addition and subtraction has been a stand out favourite, with students showcasing their ability to solve large equations. We will conclude this unit and begin the 2D shape unit in week 9.

In Literacy, we have continued Stage 7.5 in Little Learners. Students have been working hard on weekly morphemes (the smallest meaningful unit of language) and applying the use of prefixes and suffixes to base words. In our ‘Rose Meets Mr Wintergarten’ text based writing unit, we have looked at heroes and villains in narratives as well as how it is important to “Show, not tell” with their writing. This means instead of just saying what a character is like, you let the reader see it through what the character does, says, and feels, understanding the character by their actions, not just by being told. All this work is the lead into writing our own narratives.

Platoons (our weekly Year 2 sport session - additional their PE specialist class) continues to run every Wednesday this term.

Book Report and Presentation

It has been wonderful to hear about the students' personal book reviews and for them to share their love of literature with the class. Well done!

Reminders

Kind regards,

The Year 2 Team.
