Friends' Tutoring Program

To help with their preparation for exams, year 11 IB students are organising a peer mentoring program for students in year 9 and 10 who believe they would benefit from spending additional time discussing a school subject with a mentor.

The Friends' mentors are happy to help with all core year 9 and 10 subjects, especially providing explanations in maths, science, humanities, English, and languages. The service runs during break times and after school, and is completely free. Students can sign up for these sessions either as a single instance or on a regular basis, and can always change their mind if they wish. This program is targeted at students of any ability hoping to gain more confidence going into exams, and mentors adapt each session to fit the student's goals.

Black-and-White Free Clothes Day Today

Today sees the start of a week devoted to our black-and-white feathered friends - penguins! We will be raising money to support Penguin Rehab and Release - a Tasmanian organisation devoted to the care and support of sick and injured penguins. They need our support more now than ever, as they are operating under strict conditions with bird flu being present in Tasmania.

The following activities have been organised:

Thursday 17 September: Black-and-white themed free clothes day (feel free to come dressed as a penguin!) Gold coin donation.
Wednesday 23 September : Hot chocolates and snow cones for sale for $2 each.

There will also be some free activities running including a competition to give nicknames to the three beautiful bronze penguin statues outside the Senior School Office.

Year 10 Meningococcal ACWY Vaccines Reminder

Year 10 Meningococcal ACWY vaccines will be offered at the Senior School Campus next Friday 25 September by the Hobart City Council.

How to Register/Give Consent: Please complete the online consent form using this link by Wednesday 23rd September.

Year 10 Parents: Please complete the form even if you do not wish for your child to be vaccinated so records can be updated.

Years 11 and 12: Any students in Years 11 or 12 who missed their Year 10 vaccination are also eligible and may register using the same link.

For medical advice regarding the vaccination, please contact the Department of Health.

IB Theatre - Year 12 Solo Theatre Performance ‘To Be in Hell, To Look At Heaven’ - Tuesday 22 September

We warmly invite all members of our school community to an evening performance presented by Year 12 IB Diploma Theatre student, Stella Wesseldine. The final Higher Level Theatre project is a Solo Theatre Piece. Stella selected a theatre practitioner, Robert Lepage, and from their research created their own original performance based on key aspects of that practitioner’s approach to making theatre.

As Stella writes; ‘My piece, To Be in Hell, To Look At Heaven, is a theatrical imagining of the end of the world with a specific focus on the psychological consequences of an apocalypse headed by artificial intelligence. By using elements of practitioner Robert LePage’s works - with a specific focus on multi-media - I have investigated modern issues like moral corruption in the name of human development and AI induced psychosis.’

The performance will be followed by a short Q&A session to gain feedback from the audience as to the impact of the theatre piece.

When: Tuesday 22 September, 6.00pm - 6.40pm. Doors will open at 5.50pm.
