Week 10: Footscray West students follow through on their commitments

At our school, we show responsibility by following through on our commitments. A commitment is something we say we will do, whether it is completing a learning task, helping a friend, looking after a classroom job, or meeting an expectation. When we follow through on our commitments, we show that we can be trusted and relied upon.

Being responsible means doing what we say we will do, even when it is challenging or when nobody is watching. It means finishing tasks, returning permission forms, bringing the things we need for learning, and completing jobs that have been assigned to us. Following through on commitments helps our classroom run smoothly and shows respect for the people who are depending on us.

Sometimes we may forget something or find a task more difficult than expected. Responsible people don’t give up or ignore the problem. Instead, they communicate, ask for help if needed, and make a plan to get back on track. Taking responsibility means finding solutions rather than excuses.

Next week, think about the commitments you make each day. Are you completing your classroom jobs? Are you finishing tasks to the best of your ability? Are you doing what you said you would do? When we follow through on our commitments, we develop a reputation as being dependable and this is important as a member of a community. It also builds trust, shows integrity, and helps make our school community stronger.
