Principal Team's Message

Nurture.  Innovate.  Celebrate.

Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Families,

Spotlight on Year 1

Our Year 1 students have been deeply engaged in their learning this term, demonstrating wonderful focus and growing independence across both literacy and mathematics.

In literacy, students have been hard at work cracking the reading code through our Little Learners Love Literacy (LLLL) program. It is inspiring to see them acting as sound detectives, carefully stretching out words sound-by-sound, whether decoding words like sequins or applying their phonics knowledge to read unfamiliar alien words like plog. They continue to master tricky digraphs like sh, ch, th, and ee, while building their reading fluency and expression using their decodable readers. Alongside their decodables, rich mentor texts are shared together as a class, sparking thoughtful discussions around vocabulary, story structure, and author craft.

The Year 1 morning math block has been equally engaging, with students settled into their daily Number of the Day routines. Students are building strong number sense and fluency as they skip-count forwards and backwards by 2s, 5s, and 10s. They investigate whether numbers are odd or even and show great flexibility by representing numbers in multiple ways, including ten-frames, tally marks, and base-ten blocks. They are also developing wonderful 'math talk' skills, proudly explaining their thinking and problem-solving strategies to their peers.

It has been a pleasure to see our Year 1 learners approach their learning with such calm determination, curiosity, and pride. Our dedicated Year 1 teaching team has created purposeful, supportive, and engaging classroom environments where every student can thrive and build confidence each day.

Year 3 and 4 STEAM Incursion

Last Thursday, August 13, our Year 3 and 4 students participated in an exciting STEAM Incursion, with three engaging, hands-on experiences:

  • Robotic Engineering

  • Neonatal Nursery

  • Sports Science

Students explored coding and robotics using Sphero robots and tablets, learnt about growth and development while caring for high-tech infant simulators, and investigated the science behind sport through physical challenges and data collection.

These hands-on activities provided students with valuable real-world learning experiences while building their knowledge and skills across Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Health and Digital Technologies.

Science Week Extravaganza at Maramba!

What an exciting few days of scientific questioning, investigating, experimenting and discovering we have had across Maramba!

Our Foundation to Year 2 students explored Bend, Stretch and Twist, discovering what happens when we push, pull, bend and move different materials. There have been plenty of opportunities to test ideas, make predictions and see what happens.

Our Year 3 and 4 students investigated Forces in Motion, exploring how forces can make things move, stop, speed up, slow down or change direction. Our young scientists have been busy putting their ideas to the test through hands-on investigations.

And our Year 5 and 6 students got stuck into Electric Circuits, exploring how electricity travels and learning how to build, test and troubleshoot their own circuits.
