Religion

This week, our church celebrates significant dates in our Liturgical Calendar;
All Hallows’ Eve, All Saints Day and All Souls’ Day.
All Hallows' Eve (Hallowe'en)
All Hallows' Eve, or Halloween, is the vigil of the ‘Feast of All Saints’ in the Catholic Church. It's a religious observance that begins the three-day period of Allhallowtide, which is a three-day Catholic season that honours saints and the faithful departed.
All Saints Day (Saturday November 1st)
All Saints Day, which is also known as All Hallows' Day or Hallowmas) is the day after All Hallow’s Eve. On this day we celebrate the communion of saints- the union of prayer and love between ourselves and the saints in heaven. Saints names are in prayer books and their pictures are on the walls and windows of churches. Their stories teach us that there are many ways to follow Christ.
All Souls’ Day (Sunday November 2nd)
November 2nd is All Souls’ Day, a time for the Christian community to pray for all those who have died. We especially remember the deceased members of our families at this time. May they rest in peace.
Prayer for All Souls’ Day
“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.”
Remembrance Day
Tuesday November 11th is Remembrance Day. It marks the end of World War 1. On this day we also honour the men and women who have served in the armed forces, including in wars and peacekeeping missions, and those who have been injured or died. We continue to pray for peace in our world.
Remembrance Day Prayer
Loving God, you sent us your Son
to bring peace to the world.
Help us to work for peace in our homes,
our school, our city and our world.
Protect all people who are at war
and bring them home safely to their families.
Grant peace and consolation to
families who grieve the loss of
loved ones due to wars
and to communities in our world
suffering war and conflict today.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
