Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden
2026

Another seven weeks have rolled on by and we have now finished our time with 3/4N in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. The students approached each kitchen session with enthusiasm, curiosity and a wonderful willingness to learn new skills. It has been fantastic to watch their confidence continue to grow as they practised chopping, measuring, mixing, kneading and safely working together as part of a team.
Throughout the term, the children explored a wide variety of fresh ingredients and flavours while learning the importance of healthy eating, kitchen safety and cooperation. They should be very proud of the way they supported one another, shared responsibilities and showed persistence when trying new tasks and foods.
For our final meal together, the students enjoyed making delicious vegetarian pizzas filled with colourful fresh toppings, followed by a tasty homemade banana bread for dessert. The kitchen was full of excitement and wonderful aromas as everyone worked together to prepare and cook the meal. It was a lovely way to celebrate all that the students have achieved during their time in the program.
A very special thank you goes to the parents of 3/4N who generously volunteered their time to help in the kitchen. We greatly appreciate your support, encouragement and assistance each week. Thank you to Elaine (Volkan’s mum), Thu (Aria’s mum), Roshni (Ciara’s mum), Ennis and Samantha (Oliver’s mum and dad), and Amanda and Steve (Chloe’s mum and dad). Your help makes these valuable learning experiences possible for our students.
Happy cooking!

Mila - Today I did cooking and it was so fun we got to make BREAD ROLLS it looked so good. Funny moments: When we needed the bread everyone came to our table and they also started needing our bread. Ingredients: Water, honey, salt, flour and yeast. I hope all the food tastes good.
Hailey - Today we cooked and I made pumpkin soup. We cut the pumpkin and potato into little pieces. When we finished we helped clean up the kitchen and we also helped Miss Kim make the dough.
Sienna - Today at cooking I made bread. I had lots of fun making it. My group put the ingredients in and then everyone helped us roll the dough into balls. I am so excited to try the bread. I hope it tastes yummy. I am really excited to try the bread.
Yasmin - This week in the kitchen garden was really fun. First I had to go outside because some of the ingredients are outside. To get the basil we had to go to the garden and pick a bit of the basil off the plant. For the mint it was actually far away we had to go all the way to the prep area between the eating area and the prep playground. For the salad we're making today which is called beans and tomatoes. We also had to cut spring onions and all the other things that we needed. When we cut the spring onion some of us actually started to cry. It was really funny so after we cut all the ingredients such as tomato, spring onions, beans and basil we made the salad dressing with mustard white wine vinegar and olive oil. Then we mixed. We were all giving our tongs places like which ones are the smallest and the biggest. This kitchen garden was so fun like all the others, and that's what I did this week in the kitchen garden.
Ciara - Today I did nothing but my group made the main meal. It is soup and so of the other groups made this cheese bread and salad. At the end we eat it and the leftovers go to the staffroom for the teachers. They ate it and it tasted yummy. I hope you see this school is amazing. I hope you put your kids in this school.
Fede - Today in SAKG I made the basic bread with a lot of dry ingredients and wet ones too . I made a well of honey water and in the end it looked like slime. We let it set and it rose and we broke it into little pieces .
Alek - This week I made salad with mustard, green beans, cherry tomatoes and spring onions. Tomatoes made dip, the Carrots group made pumpkin soup and Eggplants made bread. At the end of cooking we all had to clean up.
Ryder - Today I realized how hard pumpkin is to cut but I managed. I liked cutting the potato and we all got to make bread balls together. It was really fun and I enjoyed it very much. I liked talking with friends while I was making the food.
