Physical Education - Term 3 Update

We have an exciting Term 3 ahead in Physical Education, with plenty of opportunities for students to develop their skills, stay active and enjoy participating in a range of sporting activities.

Our Prep-Year 2 students have been learning all about athletics this term, developing the fundamental movement skills of running, jumping and throwing through a variety of fun and engaging activities. Students have been practising correct techniques, improving their confidence and coordination, and challenging themselves to achieve their personal best in each event.

Our Years 3-6 students are also focusing on athletics as they prepare for the House Athletics Carnival, which will be held on Wednesday 19th August. In PE lessons, students are developing the skills and techniques required for a variety of athletics events, including shot put, discus, high jump, long jump, triple jump and sprinting. Along the way, they are learning about correct technique, safety, sportsmanship and the importance of setting personal goals while striving to improve their own performances.

We are still looking for enthusiastic parent volunteers to assist on the day of the House Athletics Carnival. If you are available to help, we would greatly appreciate your support in making the day a fun and successful experience for all students. Please email soleda.graham@education.vic.gov.au or sophie.stokes@education.vic.gov.au if you are available to help.

Following the athletics unit, our Years 3-6 students will begin developing their basketball skills. Students will focus on the fundamental aspects of the game, including dribbling with control, accurate passing, shooting technique, footwork, defensive positioning and teamwork. They will have opportunities to apply these skills through fun drills and modified games that build confidence and game awareness.

We are also looking forward to Hoop Time for selected Year 3 and 4 students, which will take place on Monday 17th August. This is always a fantastic event that allows students to enjoy basketball in a fun, supportive environment while representing our school.

The term has started with some wonderful weather, and it has been fantastic to see such enthusiastic participation and positive attitudes in PE lessons. We look forward to another active and enjoyable term with all of our Years 3-6 students!
