Dear Families,

As we embark on Term 3, I find myself reflecting on the journey of education—not only as an educator but also as a parent. This term holds special significance for my family as our youngest child begins the final formal term of his school education. The "beginning of the lasts"—the last lessons, last performances, and last classroom experiences—makes you truly pause and appreciate the value of education from a parent's perspective. It’s a milestone that highlights how formative and precious these school years are for every student and family.

I always love hearing about all the different things school leavers are looking to do as they leave the school environment – enter the workforce in such a range of different fields, study to gain a degree to enter the professional field, acquire further skills to help them enter the area of work they wish to enter or to travel and experience the overseas cultures and opportunities! It is just a little reminder of how much is out there and that there truly is something for everyone if you go out and grab the opportunities. Whether it be a doctor, builder, art restorer, nurse, meteorologist, farmer, musician, marine biologist, beekeeper or town planner…… the list is pretty endless! 

It does bring to mind though the saying “You can’t be what you can’t see,” so it’s important that we expose our young people to a wide range of possibilities. Books are a wonderful way to open doors to new worlds, ideas, and professions that they may never encounter otherwise. Through stories, biographies, and picture books, children can discover the lives and work of people from all walks of life. Equally important are conversations and general chit chat around the kitchen table at dinner time—sharing stories, discussing interests, and asking questions can help spark curiosity and open up new paths. Encouraging hobbies and passions, whether it’s music, science, art, gardening, or building, also plays a vital role. Often, this is where people begin to discover and pursue their interests, sometimes leading to a lifelong career. By providing these opportunities, we help broaden horizons and show children that their future can be as varied and exciting as the world around them.

Speaking of opportunities, Term 3 is also packed with exciting opportunities for our whole school community. We will be celebrating Education Week this year with a video showcasing the school and asking the students about their thoughts around education. This will befollowed closely by Science Week, which we plan to celebrate by incorporating and Science based brain break or two into each day. Book Week, a favourite event that ignites a love of reading and creativity in our students also falls in Term 3. All weeks offer wonderful chances for us to come together, learn, and celebrate the richness of education.
