PRINCIPAL

This week, I had the privilege of attending the Regional Principals Association Conference in Perth alongside colleagues from regional and remote schools across WA. It is always valuable to step away from the day-to-day, connect with others, and reflect on how we can continue to support our students.

The conference opened with a message from the Minister for Education, followed by a Q&A session with Director General Jay Peckitt and several Deputy Directors General. It was a great opportunity to hear directly about the direction of public education while ensuring regional perspectives remained front of mind in those conversations.

A key theme across the two days was leadership, particularly the importance of understanding our own values and how these influence the way we lead. It reinforced that a ‘focus on others’ is at the centre of how I approach leadership, something I believe is essential in supporting our students, staff, and community to thrive.

There was also a strong focus on building effective teams and creating environments where people can thrive. Much of this resonated with the work already happening here at the College, which was both reassuring and encouraging, and it also offered a few new ideas to build on.

As always, one of the best parts was connecting with other principals who understand the realities of regional education.  The opportunities, challenges, and the strong sense of community that comes with it. I’ve come back feeling energised, proud of the direction we’re heading, and excited about what’s ahead for our students.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support of our College;  it makes a genuine difference to what we can achieve together.
