Term 2 Week 10 26 June 2026
From the Principal
Hi Everyone,
What a great last week we have had!! CONGRATULATIONS to our Chamber Strings and Mrs Trudy Weekes, who are now in the top 3 of our regions after the Regional Fanfare Finals!!!!! It was a privileged, proud moment to watch them perform, their music fills me... Now we wait and see if they are in the top 5 of the state invited to the State Fanfare Finals.
In other, breaking, wonderful news, we have a FULL P&C EXECUTIVE - YIPPEE!!!! Thank you so much to Mr Chris Walker who is our Secretary and Mr Yasser Khan, who is our Treasurer. Along with Mr Mitchell Page and Ms Kirstin Issacs, we have our P&C forging again ahead - thanks so much again to these wonderful volunteers and to our outgoing executive!
Speaking of volunteers, please see our list of volunteers for Term 2 - we are grateful to everyone who gives up their time for Ironside State School!
Our National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Day of Celebration (NAIDOC) today was truly wonderful! Our First Nations students, Stella, Costa and Aleera, did a wonderful job of leading our NAIDOC Assembly this morning. Our Year 1 and 2 Choir was just beautiful too, thank you to them and Mrs Huxley. Mrs Huxley also led our whole school in singing Beds Are Burning by Midnight Oil, which was very powerful.
There were lots of great activities happening across the school to celebrate ’50 Years of NAIDOC’ this year - Too Deadly, thanks to our teachers!! Our guest performer Tjupurru showcasing his Didgeribone, had everyone up and dancing, it was just amazing! What a truly wonderful celebration we have had. We are so proud of our First Nation Peoples and culture here at Ironside State School.
The results are in, CONGRATUATIONS OXLEY!!!!! They are the winners of our Athletics Carnival!!! 😊
We also got to congratulate our Age Champions, what a huge achievement! Congratulations to: Chloe Lam, Shang Zumuk, Henry Nobbs, Rira Veisi, Clio de Borah, Benedict Wright, Adeline Whiting, Finn Schaefer, Ivy Abbott!
Mrs Sauvage announced our Get Caught Reading competition winners, and their winning entries were brilliant!!! Thank you to everyone who entered the competition and promoted the love of reading through this fun competition and thank you Mrs Sauvage and our Library Monitors.
Thank you to everyone who came in for our Celebration of Learning, weren’t they great days??!! Your children love being with you and doing things to showcase the wonderful teaching and learning that has been going on. Thank you also to our teachers for welcoming in our families. This connection between school and home is so important. What a wonderful term we have.
We are sadly farewelling a couple of our wonderful teachers. Ms Zoe Teys is leaving us to try working in an all-boys school before she trips around overseas. Ms Teys will be missed by her students, families and colleagues very much. Ms Teys started here as a graduate and has a special connection to Ironside. Thank you, Ms Teys, and all the very best. We are also farewelling Mrs Annabelle Houlahan, who is moving to a school closer to where she lives, after a decade here at Ironside. Mrs Houlahan is a much-loved teacher by children and families alike and will be missed by them and her colleagues. All the best Mrs Houlahan and thank you for everything!
Well, that’s it, time for a holiday. Thank you to our staff and children for a truly fantastic term. Thank you to our families, volunteers and community members for your support too. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and that you get to rest and recharge, get things done that you want to, be with your people and have fun. I will see you back here, ready for a great Term 3.
