Professional Learning

Our staff took part in a professional learning day focussed on strengthening teaching and learning through the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) Vision for Instruction and WalkThrus, developed by Tom Sherrington.

The MACS Vision for Instruction provides a shared understanding of high quality teaching and highlights the importance of evidence informed practices that support every student to learn and achieve. 

Staff deepened their understanding of the Explicit Instruction Sequence, which includes explicit instruction, where teachers clearly explain what students are learning, why they are learning it, and what success looks like; modelled instruction, where teachers demonstrate and explain new learning; guided practice, where students work with teacher support, feedback, and opportunities to apply their understanding; and independent practice, where students consolidate their learning and build confidence and independence.

Teachers then added more WalkThru strategies to their bank of teaching practices to further support the explicit instruction sequence.  WalkThrus are a collection of evidence informed teaching strategies presented in clear, practical steps. They support teachers to refine their classroom practice by focusing on key elements of effective instruction, including classroom routines, modelling, questioning, feedback, and student engagement.

Karate Achievements

Congratulations to our wonderful group of students who have been participating in the morning Karate lessons with Sensei Andrew. Through their persistence, dedication, and resilience, they have worked hard to develop their skills and have proudly earned their yellow belts. This is a fantastic achievement that reflects their commitment to learning and perseverance. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and congratulate them on reaching this important milestone. Well done!
