Sporting Dates

SPORTING DATES TERM ONE 2026

Just a reminder of the sporting pathways and opportunities available to GIHS students in 2026.

Firstly, there is the North West Representative Pathway, this is where a student, in their chosen sport, trials against other students from NW public schools for selection in a NW squad or NW team eg. swimming or netball.

It is important to understand that in some cases, New England Zone Trials occur as a stepping stone where participation rates are typically high, such as in league, touch, soccer, netball etc. Where student numbers are lesser,  trials will sometimes go straight to the North West level, usually in sports like tennis or golf etc.

To stay up to date with North West Sporting Trials, I advise students and their families to connect with the NW Sports Association Facebook page and website which are available to all.

https://app.education.nsw.gov.au/sport/representative-sport

I will of course keep students well advised of these dates but they do have to let me know well before the date so their application to trial is confirmed.

Signing up for Zone and NW trials…..firstly they will be advertised in the daily notices and students need to adhere to these instructions promptly so sporting trips can be well organised ahead of time.

Glen Innes High School also participates in numerous North West Sporting Knockouts. These teams are usually an opens age category however in some sports there is an Under 15s knockout or sometimes a 14s knockout.

Students are asked to listen to daily notices on Sentral and sign up to these teams when invited to. These sign up sheets are placed on the PDHPE noticeboard.

Among the sporting dates listed are also school carnival dates SWIMMING, CROSS COUNTRY AND ATHLETICS. Other dates that will come up include the All Schools Netball and Touch Football Gala Days.  League Tag Gala Days and other Rugby League days also pop into the calendar when the CRL officer informs us of the dates. Other sporting opportunities, such as Futsal Gala days may also become accessible to our students.
