Principal's Report

Dear Students, Families and Community Members,

Welcome back to another exciting year at Glen Innes High School! We hope all of our families enjoyed a restful break and are ready for a year filled with opportunity, growth and success.

We would like to begin by celebrating the outstanding achievements of our 2025 HSC students. Congratulations to our DUX, Howard Eastwood, on his exceptional academic results. We also warmly congratulate Kayden Elliot, who achieved 2nd place, and Rory Husband, who placed 3rd. These students demonstrated dedication, perseverance and a commitment to excellence throughout their senior years. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and the positive example they set for our entire school community.

We also recently held our annual Swimming Carnival, which was a fantastic display of school spirit, participation and sportsmanship. It was wonderful to see so many students getting involved — whether competing in events, cheering on their peers or supporting their house. Days like this highlight the strong sense of community and belonging we value at Glen Innes High School. Results will be published shortly.

A very special welcome to our new Year 7 students and their families. We are delighted to have you join the Glen Innes High School community and look forward to supporting you as you begin this exciting new chapter. We invite all Year 7 families to attend our Welcome BBQ on 18 February — a wonderful opportunity to meet staff, connect with other families and begin building strong partnerships for the year ahead.

Please also save the date for our Positive Behaviour and Wellbeing Evening on 24 February from 5:30–6:30pm in the PAC. This event is open to all members of our community. On the evening, we will share the positive behaviour supports and wellbeing structures we have in place to ensure students feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

This year we are strengthening our focus on our 5P Approach to Classroom Expectations:

· Be Prepared

· Be Positive

· Be Prompt

· Be Polite

· Be Productive

These clear and consistent expectations help create calm, respectful and focused learning environments where every student can thrive.

In 2026, we are pleased to announce that we will not be charging elective or school sporting fees for students, with the exception of some Stage 6 VET courses where external costs apply. We believe this decision supports equitable access and greater participation for all students.

Laptop fees will continue to apply across the school, as technology plays an essential role in teaching and learning. We ask that all students bring their laptop to school each day, fully charged and ready for learning. We sincerely appreciate families for supporting our school’s technology program and helping ensure students are equipped for success in a modern learning environment.

Families will still be required to cover the cost of extracurricular excursions and optional activities, as these involve external providers, transport and venue fees. We are committed to keeping these costs as reasonable as possible and will always provide advance notice and payment options where needed.

A reminder that students are required to wear full school uniform each day. Wearing the uniform with pride promotes a strong sense of belonging and school identity. If any family requires assistance with uniform items, please reach out to the school — we are more than happy to support families and can supply students with what they need.

Regular attendance remains a priority. Every day of learning matters, and even small amounts of missed time can impact academic progress, confidence and connection. We encourage families to prioritise attendance and work in partnership with us to ensure students are present and engaged every day.

There are so many exciting opportunities ahead in academics, sport, the arts, leadership and community engagement. We are proud of the positive culture at Glen Innes High School and look forward to building on this together.

Here’s to a positive, productive and successful year ahead.

Kind regards

Mrs Natalie Hill
