Heads of Secondary Years' Report

To our wonderful Hazel Glen community,

Yesterday we enjoyed the Secondary Years Swimming Carnival and it was a lovely day that focused on fun, participation, community and connection. Our year 12s looked amazing in their costumes and everyone had a great time.

It is events like these that really do help create a culture of connection and belonging and these are the events that students will remember long after they graduate. Make sure that you check Compass to consent to the Secondary Athletics Carnival that will take place in less than three weeks.

As always, there is a lot happening around the College. Most of our senior students have completed their first assessments and have enjoyed a range of events to support their learning, including a physics excursion to Luna Park! Oue Year 9s have been back in the city for their PTV Challenge and there have been a number of sporting teams out. As always, you can read more about what has been happening in the celebrations of learning section of this newsletter.

A reminder that next week and Week 8 will look slightly different for our Year 7 and 9 students, who will be participating in NAPLAN. It's important to remind our community that assessments like this, whilst important, only capture student academic achievement at one moment in time, and it does not represent them as whole, individual person.

This Sunday 8th March is International Women's Day and the theme for 2026 is

When We Give, We Gain. Together, we can help to encourage a mindset of generosity, inclusion and collaboration to help achieve gender equality through giving.

The theme of Give to Gain is about the support we can give as individuals and communities to make a difference and increase opportunities and support for women.

There are so many ways to give,

Give respectGive visibilityGive knowledge
Give justiceGive protectionGive truth
Give a voiceGive celebrationGive credit
Give accessGive mentoringGive time

Whether through knowledge, advocacy or education, contributing to gender equality helps create a more supportive and interconnected world.

So this Sunday, let's have the conversation, what will you give for gender equality?

Warm regards,
