SSV State Swimming Championships

On Thursday 23rd April Ashton L, Brendan L, Henry F and Thomas S headed to MSAC at Albert Park to compete at the SSV State Swimming Championships. Ashton L was competing first up at 12pm in the 9/10 boys 50m freestyle, he was seeded 4th or 5th based on his time at the Region Championships. Ashton was superb and was in contention for a medal right up until the end with deliberation needed as they finished. Ashton by a fingertip missed on 3rd place swimming 34.90 seconds. He was 0.03 seconds from 3rd however he was only 0.17 seconds from 2nd place. Well Done Ashton.

The other 3  boys arrived for a warm up an hour or so before their race. The team were seeded 5th and placed in lane 7 for the 12/13 4x50m freestyle relay.

Brendan was up first and put up his quickest time so far this year, passing over to Thomas with the team in 3rd. Thomas who is the only member of the team who doesn’t swim in a squad outside of school had prepared himself with a visit to MSAC in the holidays. The extra swimming helped with him swimming a PB too. The team had been overtaken and were now in 4th. Ashton L did well to keep up however with another team hot on their heels and that couple years older he was overtaken, and on the swap over were 5th. Henry F pushed on and caught up with 4th place swimming a super quick leg too, however the team in lane 6 had a little bit extra to ensure they got to the wall before Henry.

The boys finished in 5th place overall which is a fantastic achievement. However they all swam their best for Heidelberg in this race this year and although they didn’t come away with a medal they crushed their previous time by just under 10 seconds. Well Done boys on a great year of swimming and smashing your PB.
