Leveling Up Your Family’s Online Safety
Dear Parents and Carers,
As our children spend more time connecting with friends through gaming and social media, staying ahead of the digital curve can feel like a full-time job. Whether it’s navigating the latest multiplayer sensation or understanding why certain apps have age limits, having the right information is key to keeping our kids safe and happy online.
In this edition, we are highlighting two essential resources from the eSafety Commissioner designed to take the guesswork out of digital parenting:
- Gaming with Confidence: Not all games are created equal. Learn how to choose the right titles for your child’s age and, more importantly, how to use built-in safety settings to manage screen time and limit contact with strangers.
- The Facts on Social Media Ages: Ever wondered why 13 is the "magic number" for most apps? Get a quick breakdown of age restrictions, the risks of "underage" accounts, and how to talk to your kids about why these boundaries exist.
By setting up these platforms safely from day one, we can help our children enjoy the best of the web while minimizing the risks. Happy (and safe) surfing!
