PE/Sport Update

Summer Sports: Champions, Teammates and an All-Trafalgar Final

Our Grade 4–6 students have now completed their Summer Sports competition, with students representing Trafalgar Primary School across Basketball, Softball and Volleyball.

It was a fantastic day of competition, with our students demonstrating teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout their matches. With multiple teams competing across the three sports, there were plenty of opportunities for students to put their skills into practice and represent our school.

A special congratulations goes to our Boys A and Girls Softball teams, who both won their respective divisions and will now progress to the Gippsland Regional stage of competition next term.

Our Girls A Volleyball team also finished on top of their division and will progress to Gippsland Regional. Their victory came in particularly memorable circumstances, with the Grand Final becoming an all-Trafalgar affair! Girls A faced our Girls B team, who had also made it through to the final after an excellent day of competition. Girls A eventually secured the win, with Girls B finishing second overall.

Having two Trafalgar teams meet in a divisional Grand Final was a fantastic achievement and a great reflection of the depth of our volleyball program.

Our other teams also competed strongly, with our Boys Volleyball teams finishing fourth and fifth, our Girls C Volleyball team finishing eighth, and our Boys Basketball team finishing fourth.

Congratulations to every student who competed. It was great to see so many students representing Trafalgar, supporting their teammates and giving their best throughout the day.

Thank you also to the staff, parents and volunteers who helped coach, support and encourage our teams. We look forward to seeing our successful Softball and Volleyball teams take on the Gippsland Regional competition next term.

Touchdowns and LA Rams Legends: Grade 4 Take on NFL Flag

Our Grade 4 students recently had an unforgettable opportunity to experience NFL Flag at the LA Rams NFL Flag Clinic at Balwyn High School.

Students spent the day getting involved in a range of fun and challenging Flag Football activities, developing their throwing, catching, running and teamwork skills while learning more about this exciting non-contact version of American Football.

The day became even more memorable with some very special visitors. Students had the opportunity to meet LA Rams legend Torry Holt, the LA Rams mascot Rampage, and the LA Rams Cheerleaders. Meeting these members of the Rams organisation was a fantastic experience and gave students a unique connection to the NFL ahead of the Rams' historic first regular-season game in Australia.

It was great to see our Grade 4 students getting involved, trying new skills and embracing the opportunity to experience a sport that is continuing to grow in Australia.  And, who knew a trip to watch the LA Rams would turn into a starring role on Channel 9 Melbourne News?  Watch the story here!  https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1047807971484549

A big thank you to the Los Angeles Rams and everyone involved in delivering the clinic. Congratulations to our Grade 4 students for their enthusiasm, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout what was a fantastic day of NFL Flag!

Staff vs Students: Ultimate Frisbee Showdown [RW3]

What better way to finish a busy term than with a Staff vs Students Ultimate Frisbee showdown?

With our students preparing for next term’s State Ultimate Frisbee Championships, the end-of-term lunchtime match gave our top-performing Houses from each Grade 3–6 year level the opportunity to take on the Staff Allstar Ultimate Frisbee Team.

The competition consisted of four five-minute matches, with the staff taking on the best Ultimate Frisbee House from each year level. There was plenty of running, passing, defending and, of course, a few questionable throws along the way!

Our students showed plenty of skill and determination, while the staff team demonstrated that enthusiasm can sometimes be more important than actual Ultimate Frisbee ability. The matches provided a great opportunity for students to put their skills into practice in a fun and competitive environment, while giving everyone plenty of reasons to cheer, laugh and enjoy the game.

A huge thank you to all of the staff who volunteered to take on our students and to everyone who came along to support the matches. Most importantly, congratulations to our students for their excellent sportsmanship and for continuing to build their skills ahead of the State Championships next term.

Victory through effort — even when your teachers are trying to stop you!

Swimming Success: Junior Program Comes to a Close

Our Foundation and Grade 1-2 students have now completed their Junior Swimming Program at Latrobe Leisure Moe Newborough Indoor Pool, and what a fantastic few weeks it has been!

Across the four sessions, students developed their swimming skills, water confidence and safety awareness while working with qualified AustSwim instructors. It has been wonderful to see students of all abilities getting involved, challenging themselves and building their confidence in the water.

A particular highlight has been watching our youngest students become increasingly independent throughout the program, from preparing their swimming equipment to getting changed and ready for their lessons.

Congratulations to all of our Foundation, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students for their fantastic participation, effort and enthusiasm throughout the program. A big thank you also goes to our teachers, support staff and AustSwim instructors for helping make the program such a positive experience for our students.

Ready to Ride: Bike Education Wraps Up

Our Grade 3–6 students have now completed their Bike Education program, with four sessions focused on developing bike skills, confidence and safety.

Across the program, students worked on bike control, balance, braking, turning and manoeuvring, while also learning important road safety skills and responsible riding practices. Students had plenty of opportunities to put their skills into practice through a range of activities and challenges.

It was fantastic to see students developing their confidence on their bikes and supporting one another throughout the program. Whether they were already experienced riders or still building their skills, everyone had the opportunity to challenge themselves and improve.

A big congratulations to all of our Grade 3–6 students for their effort, enthusiasm and safe riding throughout the program. Thank you to our teachers, support staff and Cycling Australia instructors for helping make Bike Education such a valuable and enjoyable experience.

🎶 Making Music at TPS

Song of the year Staff choice

In Terms 2 and 3 this year all music classes have been starting each lesson by listening and interacting with 2 songs and then voting for one of the songs. The teachers and school staff also got to vote. The winning songs have been the school’s bell music and songs were removed from the bell music when they lost.

Every Friday assembly at Trafalgar Primary School starts with a student musical act. The students choose their songs and practice in the music studio at recess and lunch. The bands are formed by the students themselves. Their performances are self-driven and self-motivated by the students with preparations only guided by Mr Allan and the instrumental teachers. Here were this term’s performers.

Trafalgar Community Carols

The TPS choir will be performing at the Trafalgar community carols in early December at MacGregor Park, Trafalgar.

The choir meets during the second half of lunch on Thursdays. No experience is needed and it costs nothing. More regular attendees are always welcome.

If you would like your child to be involved in this event, forms will be sent home shortly. You are also welcome to contact me via email at ricky.allan2@education.vic.gov.au for further information.  I will require an email confirmation from a parent or guardian in order to lock in the final choir attendees for the event.

Rotary Award Update

By Phoebe

The Junior Rotary Award is a great opportunity for anyone who likes a challenge. I liked doing it because of the experiences that you wouldn’t normally do. I got to go to the Edward Hunter Reserve to do gardening and the people there were really nice. I also liked that no matter where you are, you can still do it because there are always things that can be done. I think this was a great experience and would recommend it to everyone to have a go.

By Eliza

For this award, there are nine sections that you have to do. They are community service which means you have to volunteer somewhere in your community. For this I did the Edward Hunter Reserve. You also have to do twenty hours of Physical Recreation. You have to choose an activity or sport that you would enjoy doing and you have to do 2 hours a week of it. I played basketball.

For the community commemoration, I went to the ANZAC Day Ceremony and marched with the school. For the community meeting, I went to the school council meeting with my friends. I did yoga for the religious or spiritual experience. I interviewed Lidia for the cultural exchange. She was from Mexico.

For the arts, I went to Warrnambool to the Arts Centre where my auntie works. We looked at all the different paintings and art. For the environment category, I did Clean Up Australia Day at school. And the last one is the skills where you have to learn a new skill. I chose cooking.

I would definitely recommend the Rotary Junior Community Award if you wanted to do it.
