Upper Primary has had a purposeful and positive start to the term, with a strong focus on building connections and establishing routines to support learning. The term began with the Start-Up Program, which helped students develop relationships with peers and staff, understand classroom expectations, practise routines, and complete initial assessments to guide teaching.

A key highlight has been the Discovery Unit, What Are My Superpowers?, where students explored their individual strengths and how these support learning and relationships. Through discussions and hands-on activities, students identified personal strengths, noticed strengths in others, and learnt how using their “superpowers” can build empathy and positive connections.

Students also developed awareness of their body signals through interoception experiments. By noticing physical sensations and linking them to emotions, they practised strategies to manage feelings and regulate their responses. These experiences have strengthened social competencies and supported students in understanding themselves and others.

Collaborative tasks, including Superpower Stations and the Superpower Team Challenge, gave students opportunities to work together, practise turn-taking, and use respectful communication. These activities also supported oral language development, encouraging students to use topic-specific vocabulary when sharing ideas and participating in discussions.

In Mathematics, students focused on counting and place value. Lessons combined explicit instruction with hands-on materials, allowing students to explore numbers in meaningful ways and apply their understanding practically.

Overall, students have settled well into their classrooms, building confidence, strong relationships, and essential learning skills. The term has provided a solid foundation in social, emotional, and academic learning, and we look forward to continuing this growth throughout the year.
