Upper Primary Term 1
Upper Primary students began the term strengthening fine motor skills through colouring, tracing and creating vibrant Pop Art‑inspired name designs filled with bold colours, shapes and repeating patterns. They then moved into self‑portrait work, focusing on key personal features. Students learned about Piet Mondrian, the Dutch painter known for his use of primary colours and geometric lines, and used his style to craft striking backgrounds. It has been lovely watching them collaborate, encourage one another and approach new tasks with growing confidence.
Upper primary have made a fantastic start to their semester in Digital Technology, sharing and reviewing all of our skills using the iPads. We have spent lots of time talking about how to use technology safely and different pieces of hardware that make life easier. We have been practising our keyboarding to compile our works in a digital book.
Students have been developing basic instrumental skills across all major instrument groups in the music room. The Imagine Dragons song Thunder has become our ensemble focus this term, with students exploring both the vocal line and a supporting instrumental part. It has been wonderful seeing students begin to play with more confidence as they rehearse together.
Students in Upper Primary have enjoyed learning a range of dodging and tagging games this term. They spent time practising running, dribbling, passing and shooting skills alongside their peers, showing steady improvement as the weeks progressed. Students also learnt to reflect on what went well and what challenged them during each session, helping them build confidence and awareness.

Upper Primary students revisited the Concord School values—Be a Learner, Be Safe, Be Responsible and Be Respectful—and explored what these look like in the classroom, with peers and within themselves. They practised strategies such as guided meditation, setting expectations and using reward systems to support focus and self‑regulation.
Students also began their Drug Education unit, learning the difference between food and non‑food items and how each travels through the body. They identified common household hazards, learnt safety symbols and discussed ways to keep themselves safe.
Next term, students will explore how medicines work, why labels are important and when to seek help from a trusted adult.
