📅 What's Coming Up in August
🌟 August at Hamilton (Gray Street) Primary School
August is shaping up to be another exciting month filled with learning, special events and opportunities for students and families to be involved in school life.
🎭 Gray St Got Talent - Grand Final
The first round of Gray St Got Talent auditions has now taken place, and we were thrilled to see so many students from across all year levels sharing their amazing talents. From musical performances and comedy acts to drama, magic and other unique talents, our students certainly impressed the Music Captains!
The successful performers will now progress to the Semi-Finals, which will be held on Monday 3rd August, Tuesday 4th August and Tuesday 11th August.
Our Grand Final will take place on Tuesday 25th August at 2:15 pm, where our finalists will compete for the title of Gray St Got Talent Champion!
Families and friends are warmly invited to attend the Grand Final and support our talented students. We look forward to seeing you there!
➗ Australian Mathematics Competition
Good luck to the students who have registered to participate in the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) on Tuesday 4th August.
The AMC is one of Australia's largest mathematics competitions, providing students with the opportunity to challenge their mathematical thinking, problem-solving skills and reasoning through a range of engaging questions.
We wish all students who have chosen to take part every success in the competition.
📝 ICAS Assessments
Students in Years 3–6 who have been registered by their parents to participate in the ICAS Assessments will complete their assessments throughout August.
Wednesday 12th August - Reading
Monday 17th August - Science
Monday 24th August - Maths
ICAS is an optional academic competition that recognises and celebrates student achievement across a range of subject areas, providing students with an opportunity to challenge themselves and demonstrate their knowledge and skills.
We wish all participating students the very best in their ICAS assessments.
💉 Immunisation History Statements
A notice was sent home with various students requesting up to date Immunisation History Statements to be forwarded to school by Monday 3rd August. Thank you to families who have already provided their child's statement.
🎭 Year 6 Excursion to Baimbridge College – Thursday 13th August
During Week 5, our Year 6 students will attend an excursion to Baimbridge College to enjoy their annual student performance.
Students will travel by bus, departing school at approximately 11:00 am. Following the two-hour performance, students are welcome to eat their packed lunch, bring a small amount of money (optional) to purchase something from the canteen and meet members of the cast before returning to school.
📅 When: Thursday 13th August (departing at approximately 11:00 am)
📍 Where: Baimbridge College
👥 Who: Year 6 students
🍎 Bring: A packed lunch
💰 Bring: A small amount of money (optional) if they would like to purchase something on the day from the Canteen.
We hope our Year 6 students enjoy this wonderful performance and the opportunity to experience live theatre.
🎉 Student Voice – Crazy Hair Day - Friday 14th August
Get ready for a fun day at school!
On Friday 14th August, Student Voice is hosting Crazy Hair Day. Students are invited to come to school wearing casual clothes and show off their craziest, wackiest or most colourful hairstyle.
There will also be a special hot lunch available for those families that wish to place an order, cost $6. Notices have been sent home today with the eldest in the family.
We look forward to seeing everyone's creative hairstyles and making it a fantastic day of FriYAY fun!
🎨 Coleraine Art Show Weekend – Friday 14th August
The Coleraine Art Show is fast approaching, and it has been wonderful to see so many of our students embracing the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents in this highly regarded local event.
Participating in the exhibition provides students with the chance to celebrate their creativity, share their artwork with the wider community, and experience the pride that comes from having their work displayed in a public exhibition.
A special thank you to Ms Brown for her enthusiasm, encouragement and support in preparing our young artists for the show.
We wish all participating students every success and look forward to seeing their amazing artwork on display at the Coleraine Art Show.
🚀 VSSEC Science Incursion Tuesday 18th – Thursday 20th August
As part of our Science Week celebrations, we are excited to once again welcome educators from the Victorian Space Science Education Centre (VSSEC) to Gray Street Primary School.
Throughout the week, students in Years 3–6 will participate in the engaging "Size of Your Solar System" workshop. This interactive program will allow students to explore the incredible scale of our solar system through hands-on activities and real-world scientific concepts, bringing space science to life in an exciting and memorable way.
The VSSEC incursion has previously been a highlight for our students, and we look forward to another fantastic experience filled with discovery, curiosity and learning as we celebrate Science Week.
🔬🚀 Family STEAM Night – All Families Welcome Wednesday 19th August
Join us for our Family STEAM Night — an evening of creativity, curiosity and hands-on learning!
Families are invited to attend on Wednesday 19th August from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm and enjoy a range of exciting activities designed for students and families to explore together.
There will be many interactive STEAM activities for children to participate in, encouraging problem-solving, teamwork, creativity and scientific thinking.
We look forward to welcoming families for a fun-filled evening of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics!
📚 Hamilton Gray Street PS Read-A-Thon Friday 28th August
The Student Voice Team is excited to announce the Hamilton Gray Street PS Read-A-Thon, is back for a second year. A whole-school event celebrating our love of reading while raising funds to help enhance our school library. Sponorship forms will be handed out next week to all students.
This special event will take place on Friday 28th August as part of our Book Week celebrations.
A Read-A-Thon is a reading event where students are encouraged to read as much as they can—not only for enjoyment, but also to support a great cause. From 9:30 am until 3:20 pm, there will always be someone reading in our school library. Classes will take turns throughout the day, ensuring the library is filled with the sound of pages turning and imaginations growing.
This will be a fun and meaningful way to celebrate the joy of reading, highlight the importance of our library, and bring our school community together.
📖 Why are we doing it?
Our school library is a valuable learning space for all students. The Student Voice Team has once again identified the library as an important area of focus and would like to help transform it into a more engaging, inviting and inspiring place for students to read, learn and relax.
We look forward to celebrating reading, creativity and community with all our students during this exciting event!
📚 Book Week Dress-Up Day - Friday 28th August
To celebrate Book Week students are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character to celebrate Book Week Dress-Up Day.
Costumes don't need to be elaborate or expensive—there's no need to buy one! A costume can be created using items from home!
A special Book Week Assembly will be held in the morning, where students will proudly take part in a parade to showcase their wonderful costumes. Families are warmly invited to join us for the assembly and enjoy the celebration of books, reading and imagination.
