Year 1 Woodwork  Incursion

Our Year 1 students recently enjoyed an exciting hands-on woodwork incursion where they had the opportunity to become young designers and builders for the day. Following a design plan, students independently created their very own wooden spaceships using real tools and materials, including a vice, saw and woodworking glue. They demonstrated excellent listening skills, persistence and care as they worked through each step of the building process.

The students were incredibly proud of the spaceships they constructed all by themselves. It was wonderful to see their creativity, problem-solving skills and confidence shine throughout the experience. Most importantly, everyone had lots of fun! We may even have some future architects, engineers and builders in the making here at our school!

Billie 1B – “I liked how we built a rocket. It was funny when Jonathan (the woodwork teacher) made us laugh when he was showing us what to do.”

Charlie Le 1D – ‘We got to use a saw to cut the wood. And we got to spin around the vice.’

Mahin 1A – “I liked cutting all of the wood pieces with a saw. You could stick the glue and join the wings”.

Isla 1C – “My favourite part was when we got to draw on our spaceships. We used textas to decorate. My spaceship was black, red and purple.”
