Classroom Mastery Update

Amanda Miller

Our Classroom Mastery coach recently met with the leadership team to review our implementation progress.

Our key focus has been on strengthening core routines, maintaining consistency, and contributing to a calm and orderly learning environment. This has been reflected in positive feedback from prospective Prep families during recent school tours, with many commenting on the calm atmosphere and clear, consistent routines observed across classrooms.

Looking ahead, staff surveys have identified student movement as our next priority area. Transitions can often present challenges and may lead to off-task behaviours if not explicitly taught and reinforced. As highlighted by McIntosh et al. (2004), effective transitions are designed, taught, practised, and maintained in the same way as any academic skill.

Our next phase of work will focus on embedding consistent, school-wide practices to support smooth and successful student transitions that involves moving to other places in the school during class time eg. The Hall, Specialist classes, bathroom and drink breaks)

Importantly, transitions are also a significant source of lost learning time. Did you know, saving just 15 minutes per day through more efficient transitions equates to approximately 45 additional hours of instruction across the school year.
