Easter
Over the holidays, let us remember that Easter is a great reminder that Christ died and rose for each of us. His death and resurrection can transform our lives as we endeavour to show love for our neighbours, respect all creation, and restore hope and mercy.
Project Compassion
This week, we take a look into the life of Irene. Irene is a 25-year-old single mother of two boys living in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. After her father died in a war, Irene, along with her mother and siblings, were displaced, and her mother became the sole breadwinner for the family. Despite the difficulties for her mother to afford school fees, Irene persevered to attend school for as long as she could. However, when Irene was a teenager, she became pregnant, and the father of her child abandoned her not long after she gave birth. Irene’s lack of education and, in turn, limited job opportunities further complicated her ability to support her family’s basic needs.
Despite experiencing extreme poverty, she has become a skilled seamstress and can now support her children’s education with her income.
St Mary's Caritas Fundraising: To date, we have raised $380.20 for Caritas' Project Compassion, a huge effort. This student-led initiative will continue with our final fundraiser, taking part early in Term 2. Here, students will gain sponsorships and complete an act of solidarity by running a Caritas K's Day. During this event, students walk long distances with water storage containers to bring awareness of issues faced in third-world nations. Our aim is to raise $500.
