Year 12: Celebrating the Journey to Luna Park
Year 12 students recently enjoyed a special Celebrating the Journey excursion to Luna Park, accompanied by staff for a day of rides, fun and shared memories. The excursion provided students with an opportunity to celebrate their final year together, strengthen friendships and recognise the hard work and resilience they have shown throughout their VCE journey. It was a memorable day for both students and staff and a fitting celebration of the Year 12 cohort.

Year 8 Health Promotion Campaign Gallery Walk
Our Year 8 Health students recently showcased their creativity and health knowledge during their Health Promotion Campaign Gallery Walk. After researching a range of health issues that impact individuals and communities, students worked collaboratively to develop campaigns designed to promote positive health, safety and wellbeing.
Students presented their campaigns through engaging websites, brochures, posters and videos, incorporating slogans, research and practical strategies to raise awareness about their chosen health issue.
During the Gallery Walk, students had the opportunity to view their peers’ campaigns, provide feedback and reflect on the effectiveness of different approaches to health promotion. It was fantastic to see our Year 8 students confidently share their ideas, creativity and understanding while encouraging positive health choices within our community.

Year 9 Rite Journey
Our Year 9 students recently headed into Melbourne for their City Experience as part of The Rite Journey. Working in groups, they were responsible for navigating their way around the city, locating various landmarks and completing a range of photo and video challenges. Of course, a few groups got lost along the way, but finding their way back was all part of building independence!
The excursion allowed students to build upon what they have learned throughout The Rite Journey by putting their teamwork, responsibility, problem solving and decision making skills into practice in the real world. It was great to see students grow in confidence, support one another and enjoy exploring the city together.

Mercy Health Accompaniment Program
As part of their VCE VM Personal Development Skills Units 2 and 4, our students have been participating in the Mercy Health Accompaniment Program, a community based project designed to enrich the lives of older Australians while developing students’ compassion, empathy and understanding of social connection.
Students completed two visits to Mercy Place Wyndham, where they spent time getting to know residents and interviewing them about their lives, experiences and treasured memories. Using these conversations, students created personalised “Memory Lane” Photo Stories celebrating each resident’s unique life journey. The project provided a meaningful opportunity for students to build genuine intergenerational connections while helping residents feel heard, valued and connected to the wider community.

Term 3 Teacher vs Student Debate
In round 3 of the Teacher vs Student Debates, the school put forth their top three staff - Executive Principal Fiona McAuliffe, Head of Secondary Years Daniel Wood, and Head of Learning Shemalah Anthony. These three not only commanded exceptional experience and knowledge, but the foundational virtues of our school. Challenging them, representing the students and the Debate Club, were members of the top team - President of the Debate Club Ekam Khattra, Ria Kapashi, and Poorni Kaduruwanege. This team has consistently proven themselves in their talent and tact, and were proud to rise to meet the top three staff.
In this debate, the chair moved that learning is more important than failure, where the teachers were arguing for the motion, and the students against. Both teams pushed incredible arguments and responded with due rebuttals, not only proving that they were worthy of their titles at the top, but giving the audience an incredible performance. However, the students managed to win out with their nigh-perfect logic, giving another score to the tally of the students. Not all is over for the teachers - there is one more term left, one more Teacher vs Student Debate to happen, one more opportunity for teachers to score a victory.

Spelling Success at GNLC!
We are thrilled to celebrate the achievements of our students in this year’s Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee, a national competition that challenges students’ spelling accuracy, vocabulary and speed. An impressive 11 Year 7 and 8 students from our Tarneit campus progressed from the School Round to the State Finals, representing GNLC at the next level of the competition.
Reaching the State Finals is a fantastic achievement, and we congratulate all 10 students on their hard work, enthusiasm and success. Although their Spelling Bee journey finishes at the State level this year, they should be extremely pleased with how far they progressed in this national competition.

High School Dance Competition
Our students recently represented the College at the High School Dance Competition, following months of hard work and dedication throughout Terms 2 and 3. The group generously gave up many lunchtimes to choreograph, practise and refine their performance, and their commitment certainly paid off. The team was thrilled to receive the Best Effort Award, recognising the enthusiasm, teamwork and determination they brought to the competition.
Congratulations also to Vardaan Saini, who was awarded Best Emerging Dancer – a fantastic individual achievement !A special thank you to Saanvi Setia for her work in organising the group and helping bring everything together. We also sincerely thank Mrs Gade, Mrs Challa and Mrs Nair for their time, encouragement and support of the students throughout the process. Congratulations to everyone involved!

Tarneit Division Athletics Carnival
On 28th August our Athletics Team competed at the Tarneit Division Athletics Carnival at the VU Athletics Track. Our students competed against schools from across the division with the opportunity to qualify for the Western Metro Regional Athletics Carnival.
Our team performed extremely well with 12 students progressing to the next stage of competition:
