Book Week Parade & Activities
Last week, our College celebrated Book Week with a range of activities celebrating stories, creativity and a love of reading.
Friday brought our Book Week Costume Parade to life, with students arriving dressed as an impressive range of book characters, followed by a lunchtime Book Week Fashion Show, where students competed for creativity and originality.
We were also thrilled to welcome poet and author Steven Herrick, who performed some of his poems, shared excerpts from his verse novels and even incorporated students’ names into poems. Students from Years 3–7 also had the opportunity to ask Steven questions about writing and poetry.
Throughout the week, students enjoyed lunchtime activities in the Library, including drawing and a literary quiz. A wonderful week celebrating the joy of books, stories and creativity!
During Book Week, our Year 4 students had the wonderful opportunity to join award-winning author and illustrator Freya Blackwood for a special online workshop, stepping inside her imaginative world to discover the stories behind her beautiful illustrations, what sparks her creativity and how she brings memorable characters to life through pictures.
Students also enjoyed hands-on drawing activities that encouraged imagination and creative expression before finishing the session with a live Q&A. The Year 4 students embraced the opportunity to be creative, inspired and imaginative!

Prep Toy Incursion
On Monday the 24th of August, the Preps turned into little scientists during our hands-on Toy Science Incursion. This links to our current Unit of Inquiry, How the world works, where we are exploring the Central Idea: 'People can use what they know about materials to create a design solution'. The classroom was buzzing with curiosity as students explored three interactive investigation stations focused on materials, movement and motion.
Students examined various toys that were made from different materials and learned the reasons behind the choice of specific material or a combination of different materials. The Preps also explored how toys move during play, such as rolling, spinning, sliding, pushing and pulling. After investigating, the students had plenty of open-ended time to test their ideas, play and discover how the physical world works through their favourite toys!

Grade 5 & 6 Hoop Time
On 19th August our Grade 5 & 6 students headed to Eagle Stadium to compete in the Hoop Time Basketball Competition.We had nine teams representing the College including six Rookie teams, one Future Stars Girls team, one All Star Boys team and one All Star Girls team. A huge congratulations to our All Star Girls team who won their competition and will now progress to the next stage of Hoop Time.
This is a fantastic achievement and we wish them the best of luck at the next stage!I would also like to thank all of our secondary school students who coached teams throughout the day. You all did a fantastic job supporting and encouraging the Grade 5 & 6 students. Well done to everyone who competed and represented the College!
