Successful Book Day Parade & Book Swap at CC!

We had a fantastic time celebrating our love for reading during our much awaited Book Day Parade and Book Swap! Students and staff came dressed up as their favourite book characters, filling the school with creativity, colour, and bringing to life bellowed storybook characters.

The Book Swap Fundraiser was equally successful, giving families the chance to exchange preloved books for “new-to-you” stories, while raising funds. At the same time, we raised $42 to support The Indigenous Literacy Foundation. It was heartwarming to see students discovering books that sparked their curiosity and imagination.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated, donated books, and helped organize the event. Your enthusiasm made it a truly memorable day!

Let’s keep the reading spirit alive! 📚

Kind regards

CHINA TRIP

OUR CHINESE ADVENTURE BEGINS NEXT WEEK …..

On September 13th, at 5 am in the morning, 8 excited, but sleepy, students will be meeting at Tullamarine airport   to embark on an exciting adventure visiting Mainland China.   This amazing17 day  trip has been in the making for the last two years, but finally, and almost unbelieveably, the time has come for their journey of discovery to begin.

The trip has been organised by Xiaoming on behalf of the Languages faculty to allow the students to experience the beautiful culture of China. Here they will visit the most amazing sights, taste authentic and delicious Chinese cuisine, experience daily life living amongst the one billion residents that reside there and have the opportunity to put into practice the language they have been studying for the last few years. It doesn’t get better than this!

Collingwood College has a number of sister schools in China, and our exchange and visiting program  has been running for at least fifteen years.  We are so proud as a school that this is the first trip planned and undertaken since Covid interrupted this program, so everyone is very enthusiastic for this great opportunity has resumed again.

Our eight students have been very committed to being a part of this trip and countless of hours have been spent fundraising behind the scenes to allow the students the opportunity to visit acclaimed Historical attractions, such as the Great Wall of China, the Terracotta Warriors and  many other  famous areas. Five cities will be visited across China, the extraordinarily fast Bullet trains will be used a number of times and students will be buddied up with Chinese students in the three schools we will visit. A day at Disneyland will be another highlight of this trip.

We will be sending updates on some of our adventures, and are all looking forward to having not just an awesome time, but an extraordinary experience all around. Thank you to the school leadership team for allowing and supporting this wonderous adventure to happen for these lucky students.

Both our boys’ and girls’ teams poured their hearts into the game and demonstrated incredible teamwork. A huge shout‑out to the boys’ team for clinching 2nd place they battled all the way to the final and missed the top spot by just two points. A brilliant effort!Their resilience, sportsmanship, and dedication were truly inspiring. It was a fantastic day of competition and community spirit.

Chinese Cultural and Food Market – A Wonderful Afternoon

In support of the efforts that the China trip students have been putting in to raise money for their trip to China, the Languages faculty put together an amazing fundraiser on Wednesday, 13th of August from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm.

This turned into a most successful afternoon, not only because it provided lots of delicious Chinese food, but also because it also of the great entertainment that was showcased. Students performed amazing musical items, games were available for students to participate in to win prizes and watching students running the food stores and raising money so enthusiastically really added to the overall positive feel of the whole afternoon. Laughter, excitement and fun were the order of the day.

And to further attest to the success of the afternoon was the amazing revelation the next day that this cultural afternoon managed to raise a staggering $1500.00 towards the China Trip fundraising. What an unbelievable and fantastic effort across the board.

Thank you to Xiaoming and the Languages faculty and to the helpful and enthusiastic Collingwood students for this great effort. Whether you ran a stall, helped carry food to the stalls, performed a musical item, helped set up or clean up, bought the tasty food to eat, or joined in with the games, you certainly contributed to making this a wonderful and enjoyable afternoon. One that the Language teachers and China Trippers gratefully appreciated.

Sincerely Yours,

The Languages Team
