Primary School News
We have made it through Winter, and what a lovely, warm (mostly) beginning to Spring. It’s hard not to smile when you stand on the front oval, surrounded by the warmth of the sunshine and the beautiful blossoms that smile back at you.
Although the Term started on the slower side, as we were all still getting over the extremely long Term two, we have managed to finish up with lots of fun events.
Grades 3-6 Swimming: A big thank you to Jo Windred and the teachers for their support of this event. As we know, swimming and water safety are essential skills to have.
Book week: The most popular event at Collingwood College Primary school! What a fantastic way to celebrate literature than to read amazing books, dress up as your favourite book character, share your favourite story and raise money for a great cause. Thank you for all of the donated books.
Main program Performing Arts plays: The Main program students had been working hard designing and rehearsing their Term 2 topic, and showcased their plays to the families earlier this term. Thank you, Angela, for organising and supporting the students.
MSO excursion: As part of the Steiner class 3-6 Orchestra, the students will be visiting this year’s MSO Kids' Concert, Eliza’s Orchestra Adventures. What a wonderful way for the students to experience beautiful music and be inspired by the hard work they have already put in for their instrumental music lessons.
Prep and Grade 1/2 main program ‘Under Sea' performance: The grades Prep to two students have been working on this project since the start of the year. They have investigated and explored the world of the ocean, learnt about marine life, climate change, and how to better care for the oceans. Now they have the opportunity to share this with their families. This performance has been supported by Music artist Phil Hudson, thanks to a grant from the City of Yarra.
Grades one and two sleepover: The excitement for this event began a few days prior, and by Friday, you could have easily mistaken that the teachers had given the kids red cordial. The event started with a story, followed by an afternoon snack, setting up beds, some games, a shared meal in the canteen, more stories, and sleep (apparently, everyone slept). A huge thank you to Bernice, Bianca and Simon, as well as our parent volunteer Jessica, for their hard work and time.
City of Yarra Early Years partnership network: Every term, Principals, Prep teachers and Kinder teachers from the City of Yarra get together to share ideas, collaborate and work on a smoother transition for students. The Term Three network meeting was held at Collingwood College on Tuesday, September 2. Maya, Meredith and I had the opportunity to share the wonderful work we do at Collingwood and showcase our amazing school.
Kinder kids visiting: Term Three is also when we ask local kindergartens to come and visit our school and share our facilities with them. We have had children from Yallabirrang visit our Library, East West ELC spent a day with us reading, playing, and participating in science experiments and clay work, Gold St Kinder visited our playground and participated in a science experiment activity. Next Term, our Prep students will be venturing to Guardian Kinder in Abbotsford, as well as visiting Yallabirrang Kinder.
Grade Prep Spring Festival: Our youngest members of the community are coming together in the last week of school to celebrate the arrival of Spring and connect with the natural world.
I hope you have a wonderful break over the school holidays, and I look forward to seeing you next Term.

Primary Art
As part of the Primary Performing Arts Program, Year 5/6 and 3/4 students created plays with a focus on comedy. Oue school community as well as family members had the opportunity to watch the performances and have a laugh. A band created by Year 5/6 students also played an original song written by Mehan Yazdanpanah.

Class 6 Steiner
In Term 3 Class 6 Steiner revisited Ancient Roman History. In this Main Lesson we learnt about the remarkable feats of legendary leaders such as Hannibal who crossed the Alps into Italy with 40 war-trained elephants. We wrote diary entries and recounts of the exploits of Julius Caesar, exploring drawing with charcoal in large format and learning the stirring speeches of Marc Antony and Brutus from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar play.

Aquarium visit Year 1/2
We went to the aquarium earlier this month. We went to see their habitats as we've been studying our community, and the environment we live in this term. So comparing their world and ours was interesting.
We really enjoyed the train journey, and seeing all the animals with our guided tour, but the most exciting exhibit was a 4D movie (4D = 3D plus water spray, wind and lumpy chairs) about penguins based on the movie 'Happy Feet'.

Outside Hours School Care (OHSC) - Bookings Now Open for TheirCare
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are pleased to announce that the booking calendar for Collingwood College TheirCare is now open.
To manage your bookings, kindly log in to your parent portal and access your booking calendar located at the bottom of your dashboard. Please ensure that your account is complete for the calendar to appear.
Additionally, we would like to provide you with an update regarding your payments and childcare subsidy.
Typically, we charge your out-of-pocket fees at the end of each week (in arrears). However, as Collingwood College TheirCare is a new service with us, there is a transition period for Centrelink to process the subsidy transfer.
Centrelink is currently in the process of transferring the service, and until this transition is complete, we are unable to determine the exact amount of out-of-pocket charges. Therefore, we anticipate commencing charges once Centrelink has processed the Child Care Subsidy (CCS).
Once the transition is finalised, you will receive a system-generated email prompting you to log into your Centrelink account (via MyGov) to confirm your details for the service, ensuring that the subsidy is correctly applied to your account.
We wanted to inform you of this process in advance, should you be expecting a direct debit or enrolment notice.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Support Team during office hours at 1300 072 410.
Warm regards,
The Team at TheirCare
