What do you enjoy most about working at DCC?

I joined the Donvale Community in 2000 when my oldest son started Prep, and over the years I’ve seen many changes. Buildings, staff, and students come and go, but one thing hasn’t changed: it’s a place where I can be myself and speak openly about my faith and love for Jesus Christ. It’s a joy to spend my days with people who understand and get me. For me, it’s home—where I belong, where I am loved, and where I seek to serve and honour Jesus Christ.

What do you love most about your role, and why?

Over the years, I’ve held several admin roles, each a little different. I’ve recently moved into the Secondary Administration role, which is new for me. While I could joke that loving stationery is a perk, what I really enjoy most is interacting with staff and parents, and getting to know the students—the little interactions and relationships that make the role so rewarding.

How does your faith shape the way you approach your role in administration?

Everything we do should honour Christ and reflect a servant heart, showing love and kindness to everyone.  I enter each day, with my heart willing to serve, to always be available to help and to show love and kindness to students, staff and parents. I may just spend a moment in time with a student asking for a uniform pass, but I know that is my moment to smile and to show them that I care.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

One of my favourite pastimes is spending time in the garden. While weeding isn’t much fun, I love our native garden and planting summer vegetables. There’s nothing better than going out to the garden and picking the lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers for your evening meal, it doesn’t get much fresher than that. I also enjoy going for long walks, we are blessed to have the Dandenong’s right outside our door, so I regularly get up the mountain for a Sunday afternoon walk.

Year 7 and Peer Mentors BBQ

Leanne Benson, Head of Year 7

Our Year 7s have truly embraced the start of their secondary school journey, living out our theme “Let Your Light Shine” from Matthew 5:16.

Their first week has been filled with energy, curiosity, and genuine excitement as they’ve built new friendships, learned to “surf” their new devices, and have begun shaping a positive and connected community culture filled with the love of Christ.

The BBQ with their Peer Mentors on Friday celebrating the first full week of secondary school was a wonderful highlight—full of laughter, meaningful conversations, and encouragement from our senior students.

With such an enthusiastic start, our Year 7s are already shining brightly, and we’re eagerly looking forward to the next big milestone of the year: Year 7 Camp, where their learning, teamwork, and sense of adventure will continue to grow.
