Book Character and Idiom Parade:

This year, we stepped up our traditional Book Character Parade by including costumes that represented idioms.

This was a brilliant innovation and led to some wonderful costume ideas, and most of our children now know what an idiom is.

I dressed as Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street — in a green onesie. Two boys standing behind me were wondering aloud who or what I might be. One said, "Clearly he's an idiom — cool as a cucumber." So from that point on, that's what I was.
