What an Amazing Term 3! 

We have had another amazing term in Foundation, filled with so many exciting experiences, celebrations and lots of learning!

We have celebrated so many firsts this term. During NAIDOC Week, we made our own emu callers, decorated long-neck turtles and listened to many wonderful Indigenous stories. We also celebrated our 100 Days of School – 100 Days Brighter! This was such a special milestone and a wonderful achievement for our Foundation students.

We had our very first Book Week Parade, where the students looked fantastic dressing up as their favourite book characters. We also had the lovely opportunity to share our favourite books with our grandparents and special friends. It was wonderful to see the students so excited to share their love of books with the people who are important to them.

Another exciting first was our first Athletics Day! Everyone did an amazing job of having a go, trying their very best and encouraging each other. I was so proud to see the students giving each activity a go and showing such wonderful sportsmanship.

This week brings us another first – our Father’s Day Breakfast tomorrow! I am looking forward to sharing this special morning with our dads, grandfathers and special people.

Amongst all of these exciting experiences, we have also been very busy learning. In Reading, we have been challenging ourselves with harder books, retelling what we have read and using our sounds and phonics knowledge to work out tricky words. We have loved exploring the book I Went Walking and have enjoyed becoming authors by writing our own versions of the story. We have also had lots of fun learning some basic Auslan signs to go along with the book.

In Maths, we have been learning about sharing collections of objects equally and fairly. We have also been working hard on our Blitz Master activities and are becoming very independent when completing these. It has been fantastic to see the students taking responsibility for their learning and challenging themselves.

Our Friday, Language Experience continues to be a highlight of the week. The students have loved talking about their experiences, creating wonderful pieces of work and proudly taking their fantastic creations home to share with their families.

It has been a term full of learning, laughter, celebrations and lots of firsts. I am incredibly proud of how much each student has grown and developed this term.

I can't wait to see what Term 4 brings! 

Foundation Elmer the Elephant

In the art room, Foundation students have been working on their Elmer the Elephant mixed media artworks. After reading about Elmer and his friends adventures, students created painted paper using watercolour paints. They created a jungle background using oil pastels, taking notice of the different plants and flowers in Elmer's world. Lastly, students drew and cut out Elmer and pasted him onto their background. 

Grade 1/2 plasticine portraits

Students in Grade 1/2 worked extremely hard to create their 2D portraits out of plasticine. They either created a self-portrait, or a portrait of a family member. They had to carefully consider colour choices of background, hair colour, skin colour, clothing and accessories. I think you will join me in congratulating them all on some fantastic portraits!
