The Issue Highlights

Dear Families,

Welcome Back to Term 3!

I hope you all have had a good holiday as a family. I am very excited to be back at Jackson this term. It has been lovely to reconnect with our students, staff and some families this week.

I would like to thank Bern for stepping into the Acting Principal role during my secondment at Riverwalk Primary School. Thank you also to Kathy Pham for taking on the Acting Assistant Principal role in Term 2.

My time at Riverwalk provided a valuable insight into a Support Inclusion School as part of the broader Disability Inclusion Reform landscape. I was pleased to help them navigate some significant challenges and compliance activities during a period of instability for their community.

Staffing Changes

Congratulations, Kelly Sherrard, who will take on the Acting Assistant Principal position for Term 3 during Julie's long service leave. Kelly will continue to oversee Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting as part of this role. We look forward to working with you.

Congratulations also to Christine Tidswell, who has been successful in being appointed as our inaugural NDIS Navigator. For more information on this role and our NDIS policy, please visit: https://newsletters.naavi.com/i/JqPookN/ndis/page/7. This includes information about how Christine can support your family in the new NDIS Navigator role (in 35 different languages).

On behalf of the Jackson School Community, I would like to officially welcome our new ES staff for Term 3:

  • Trang Tri (Prep A)
  • Libby Jackson (Prep B)
  • Lien Tran (11/12A)

In addition to welcoming our new staff members, several workforce changes will take effect in Term 3.

Workforce Changes:

  • Danni Edwards - ES (5/6E)
  • Mark Bituin - ES (5/6B)
  • Ricki Platts - Teacher (7/8A)

I'd also like to welcome back Jess Nye, who is returning from parental leave. Jess will begin with us on July 30th who will join the Year 3/4 Team.

NAIDOC Week & School TV

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee.

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia at the beginning of July each year (Sun, 6 July 2025 – Sun, 13 July 2025), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Thank you Helena, in her role as Marrung Champion, for organising Uncle Ron Murray for the assemblies at the end of Term 2. This week students also took part in a story telling incursion to listen to Dreamtime stories. Staff also took part in Cultural Understanding & Safety Training run by our Koorie Education Support Officer (KESO) from the Department of Education.

It is important for children and teens to have an understanding that we do not need to assimilate into one culture in preference over others. Difference is a great thing and our society can only benefit from a range of world views and experiences.

If you access the tab SchoolTV in the newsletter, you will be able to view a short video that promotes an awareness about the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. Hopefully this will be something you can watch and discuss with your family.

SPECIAL REPORT: Celebrating NAIDOC Week | Jackson School

100 Days of Prep

On our 100th Edition of our online Jackson iNewsletter, today we also celebrate a very special milestone - 100 Days of Prep! Our Foundation students have now completed their first 100 days of school, and what an incredible journey it has been so far as they begin their 13-year school careers. From learning routines and making new friends to developing early literacy and numeracy skills, our youngest learners have grown in confidence and capability every day. To mark the occasion, students have taken part in fun-filled activities and celebrations that honour just how far they’ve come.

Congratulations to our amazing Prep students - we are so proud of you all!
