Illness – Unwell Students

As we enter the cooler months, we are seeing an increase in colds and flu. While we understand the importance of regular school attendance, we kindly ask that if your child is displaying symptoms or feeling unwell, please keep them at home. This helps prevent the spread of illness to other students and staff.

Gastroenteritis Reminder: If your child has experienced vomiting or diarrhoea, they must remain at home for at least 48 hours after the last episode before returning to school. This precaution helps keep our school community healthy and safe. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Premiers Reading Challenge closing soon

Each year students at Oakleigh Primary School participate in the Premier’s Reading Challenge.

All students have been registered to take part in the challenge but entering the books needs to be done at home.

Students should have received their usernames and passcodes from their teachers. This will allow them to access their account on the Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge and start to enter the books that they have read or experienced.

To complete the challenge and receive a certificate, students are required to read or experience:

Foundation to Year 2

  • Number of books: 30
  • Number of books from the Challenge book list: 20 or more

Year 3 to Year 6

  • Number of books: 15
  • Number of books from the Challenge book list: 10 or more

The challenge is not compulsory but as all students borrow books from the school library and have books read to them at school, the challenge should be achievable for all students. The deadline for entering books is 5th September 2025, so plenty of time.

Hats on now

A quick reminder that all students should be wearing hats during recess and lunchtime.

From mid-August UV levels can reach 3 which is when sun protection is recommended.

Please ensure your child has a suitable SunSmart hat (one that is big enough to offer effective sun protection).
