Seasonal Firefighter Recruitment

Applications are now open for the Seasonal Firefighter Recruitment Campaign under Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic).

Each year, DEECA employs around 500 seasonal firefighters across approximately 76 locations throughout Victoria. These individuals play a vital role in protecting Victorian communities and the environment by supporting bushfire response, planned burning, pest and weed control, and emergency management across the state.

This year, we are referring to these roles as ‘Seasonal Firefighters’, although the official position title is Seasonal Forest and Fire Operations Officer.

In the Loddon Mallee Region, seasonal firefighter positions are available across 16 locations:

  • Mallee District: Mildura, Hattah, Hopetoun, Robinvale, Swan Hill, Underbool, and Werrimull
  • Murray Goldfields District: Bendigo, Heathcote, Maryborough, Rushworth, St Arnaud, Castlemaine, Cohuna, Inglewood, and Macedon

We encourage interested individuals to apply and join the frontline team making a real difference across Victoria.

Key Information:

Why Apply?

Seasonal firefighter roles offer:

  • Meaningful work with a strong sense of purpose
  • Opportunities to work outdoors in some of Victoria’s most beautiful and remote areas
  • Training and experience that supports future careers in emergency or land management
  • The chance to travel, learn new skills and make a difference
  • A diverse and inclusive workplace, with designated First Nations positions available

Whether someone is looking for a tree change, sea change, or local employment — there’s a seasonal firefighter role to suit, regardless of previous firefighting experience. All that’s needed is a great attitude and willingness to learn.
