Principal's Message

Good afternoon all!
It has been another busy and enjoyable time at Sacred Heart, with many opportunities for our students and community to come together.
Last Friday was a particularly big day, beginning with our Father's Day Breakfast and continuing with our school Athletics Carnival. Both events were wonderful celebrations and were very well attended. Thank you to all the parents and special people who made the day so special by joining us for breakfast, the carnival, or both.
An important part of our Athletics Carnival is encouraging all students to participate, try their best and demonstrate good sportsmanship. It was wonderful to see these qualities on display throughout the day. Twenty students were recognised with awards for their outstanding effort and willingness to give their best. Congratulations to these students, as well as all of our placegetters who will represent Sacred Heart at the Interschool Athletics Carnival this Thursday. We wish them every success!
A reminder to those parents and caregivers who have received an invitation to complete the ORIMA survey. We would greatly value your feedback, as it provides important information to help us continue to improve our wonderful school. I encourage all families who have received the survey to take the time to participate.
Our Book Week celebration on 26 August was a wonderful experience for our students. There were some fantastic costumes on display, and we are grateful to our families for supporting their children to celebrate their love of reading by dressing as a character from one of their favourite books.
Our Year 2 students also had the opportunity to share this experience with others in our wider community through visits to Moyola Aged Care and the offices of Catholic Education Sandhurst. These experiences provided our students with a wonderful opportunity to connect with others and share their enthusiasm for books and reading.
This week has been filled with exciting incursions and excursions. Our Year 5 students are visiting Cussen Park for the Bees and Blossoms program, while our Foundation students attended Harvest Fresh to learn more about where our food comes from. They are also looking forward to a visit from the Animal Farm on Friday.
Students also had the opportunity to experience the Books to Life exhibition at Victory Hall today. These activities provide valuable opportunities for our students to extend their learning beyond the classroom and engage with the community.
Our Breakfast Club commenced this week with a group of very enthusiastic students. We are fortunate to have four dedicated volunteers working alongside members of our school's wellbeing team to support this important initiative. We are extremely grateful to the Mooroopna St Vincent de Paul Conference as well as Tatura Bakery for their ongoing donations and support of our Breakfast Club. We also thank Rotary, whose generous donation earlier this year enabled the purchase of a dishwasher and refrigerator, both of which will be of great assistance in supporting this program. It is wonderful to see our community coming together to support the wellbeing of our students.
Like other Catholic schools, Sacred Heart has been working with Catholic Education Sandhurst Limited (CESL) to support the ongoing financial resilience of our school. This important planning will help to ensure the long-term sustainability of Sacred Heart, particularly at a time when employment costs are increasing. While we are working through some financial challenges, I want to reassure families that this process will not impact the quality education that our students and families enjoy. Fee increases for next year will be in line with changes to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and, contrary to some recent press reports, will not increase excessively.
We will continue to keep families informed of any developments resulting from this process. Parents and caregivers are always welcome to contact me if they have any questions or concerns.
Finally, we have 16 students who will be celebrating the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist this weekend as part of the Sacred Heart Parish Mass. This is a very special milestone in their faith journey, and we keep these students and their families in our thoughts and prayers as they prepare for this important occasion. We pray the following in support of our students:
Prayer for Children Receiving Sacraments
Lord, we lift up these children as they prepare to receive Your holy sacraments. Fill their hearts with faith, joy, and a deep love for You as they take these sacred steps in their spiritual journey. May Your grace strengthen them, guide them, and keep them always in Your loving care.
