We acknowledge the first peoples of the Kulin Nation, their Dreaming of the past, present and future. We pay our respect for their land by looking after the land we learn and play on.

OSHC was turned into a laboratory last week for National Science Week! All educators came up with and ran a science experiment of their choosing for the children to hypothesize, test and experience.

Our budding young scientists took part in the following activities throughout the week:

Walking rainbows

Volcanic eruptions, for which the students made the volcano

The making of borax crystals

Learning the about the solar system, painting planets on ‘moon rocks’

Witnessing the reaction when you add Mentos to Cola

Slime making

Elephant toothpaste

Other special days on our calendar we’ve learnt about are World Lion Day, International Tiger Day and National Potato Day. Craft activities have supported the learnings these days and sparked conversation about each subject.

This week being Book Week our weekly planner has been full of book inspired planned activities. Wand making was back by popular demand with Lucy, who pre made 30 wands ready to be painted and decorated by budding witches and wizards.

A drawing competition was started on Monday, children have been asked to draw a scene from either The Day the Crayons Quit or Harry Potter.

Winners to be decided next week. A Where’s Wally Hunt had children looking high and low and book character silhouettes has had everyone trying to work our who’s who in the book world.
