Further Recognition & Achievements

It’s no coincidence that since introducing our Year 7 scholarships, students at Northern Bay College have become increasingly successful—not only in their academic pursuits but also in securing further scholarships as they progress through their schooling. This positive trajectory is a testament to the incredible support of our generous donors.

We are deeply grateful for their continued commitment to our great government school and the bright futures they help shape.

Here are a few more examples of the fantastic achivements of our students:

ABCN Scholarship Sydney Camp

Jessie Melnik - VCE Learning Community Leader

On May 14-16, I accompanied Son Lar & Mehdi Mohammad to the ABCN Scholarship Accelerate program in Sydney. These students not only represented our school with pride & enthusiasm but stepped up to every opportunity and connection presented to them. Being awarded a $7000 scholarship and a having a mentor for the next three years was just the tip of the iceberg. The students spent time with many different leaders across our country, from student leaders to federal MP’s & CEO’s of companies such as Optus, Celvin Klein & Tommy Hilfiger. Make sure if you see these students to ask for their highlights.

Son Lar Ler Wah - Year 11 ABCN Scholar

I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Sydney for the ABCN Summit. It was an inspiring experience where I got to meet students from all around Australia, each with their own unique stories and ambitions. Throughout the summit, we took part in workshops, shared our goals, and had open conversations about our plans during school and beyond. One of the highlights of the trip was spending time with my mentor, Amy, who supported and

encouraged me throughout the summit. She helped me reflect on my goals and guided me as I spoke about my plans for during and after schooling. It was motivating to be surrounded by people who were just as focused on building a strong future. The trip not only helped me grow personally, but also gave me the confidence to keep pushing towards my dreams.

Mehdi Mohammad Aref - Year 11 ABCN Scholar

The ABCN program has truly been an amazing experience. I’m so excited to see what I’ll be able to achieve next with their support. One of the highlights for me was the Sydney trip with our mentors, it was absolutely an incredible experience. I really appreciate my mentor, Martin. He’s honestly the best! He always encourages me to be my best self, and whenever I’m facing a challenge or need help, he’s there for me to lend me a hand. I hope I’m able to give something back to him too, even in small ways. I absolutely loved visiting Sydney and meeting the other scholars. One person who I extremely appreciate from the scholars is Son Lar. She's so kind and genuine, and I really appreciate that I know her. Everyone I met from across Australia was amazing. I enjoyed networking with them because they inspired me and helped me grow. I truly hope I stay in touch with them and especially with Martin even after the scholarship ends. I wouldn’t trade this experience or the people I’ve met through this program for anything in the world.

Western Chances Scholarships

Congratulations to our NBC students who were awarded Western Chances scholarships, bringing the total number of supported students to 30 (21 still on NBC campuses).

This program provides life-changing opportunities, offering both material support and valuable networking connections.

Endeavour Scholarship

Northern Bay College is immensely proud to celebrate the incredible achievement of Farzana Mohammad Aref, who has been formally selected as one of just four students across Australia to attend Space Camp in Houston this year. As part of the prestigious Endeavour Scholarship, Farzana will join Mission Team #24 on a fully funded trip to the U.S. Space & Rocket Centre in Huntsville, Alabama, where she will participate in astronaut training, engineering challenges, and an extended duration simulated space mission.

This recognition is a testament to Farzana’s dedication to her studies, her passion for STEM, and her commitment to supporting and inspiring others. Her selection highlights the wealth of talent at Northern Bay College and serves as a shining example to all our students that hard work and ambition can lead to extraordinary opportunities.

Her journey embodies the very essence of aiming high - pardon the pun - and we hope it encourages all students to reach for the stars in their ambitions.

Farzana was formally recognised at the 2025 Avalon Airshow for receiving the scholarship to Space Camp—just incredible!! Congratulations, Farzana!
